I Used Only Feminist Hillary Clinton Quotes On Tinder To See How Men Reacted, And Here's What Happened

The beauty of Tinder is that you can swiftly weed out men that you aren't attracted to, or are obviously creepy — but it's also important to know which ones share your feminist beliefs before taking the time to meet them in person. No woman wants to be stuck on a horrid date with a male chauvinist — talk about a nightmare come true. So, I decided to use only feminist Hillary Clinton quotes on Tinder for a week to see how men responded to her passionate and pointed comments on gender equality and women's rights.

Gender equality is a vital part of Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign, and how she fares in the polls will be an indication of how Americans feel about having a female president. Are American men ready for a strong, feminist leader? Granted, Tinder may not be the best place to talk politics, but how men respond to random pro-women statements can be a good judge of character.

I try to channel Clinton's confidence and strength in my own life as much as possible, so why not in my dating life too? It's very empowering to shut down a bro's criticisms with a feminist Clinton quote no one can argue with (I suggest trying it the next time a dude's being degrading or just plain gross). If Clinton had a Tinder, she would definitely find the most eligible bachelors, but most men weren't really into talking about her feminist agenda with me.

Check out what happened...

"If women are healthy and educated, their families will flourish."

Being a fellow writer, he was probably on to my game, but not interested in playing. At least he agreed that healthy, educated women lead to stronger families and communities.

"Women are the largest untapped reservoir of talent in the world."

This fella also agreed with Clinton’s feminist statements, but wasn’t down for discussing them. So far, no one’s standing up to my high feminist dating standards.

"American women don't need lectures from Washington about values."

Since this guy started off the conversation by giving me a short autobiography, I figured he would be up for chatting about pretty much anything… but I was mistaken.

"I know there are still barriers and biases out there."

Clinton’s strong words were very confusing to him. Also, spelling apparently isn’t his strong suit either.

"Human rights are women's rights."

I had been saving Clinton’s iconic “human rights are women’s rights” quote since it’s pretty recognizable, but it still went over his head. The poor guy just wanted to take me out for a beer — unfortunately for him, shaking his head at Clinton is going to get him nowhere.

"There cannot be true democracy unless women's voices are heard."

Anytime a man says you should stop talking about something, throw this quote back at them. Even this guy who wanted nothing to do with Clinton’s feminism couldn’t do anything but concede.

"Like it or not, women are always subject to criticism."

That’s a very enthusiastic “hey,” but he was less eager to talk about uplifting women.

"So is Drake."

I’m usually down to discuss Drake any time, and am impressed when people find ways to bring him up in random conversations, but let’s not move the focus from women to a famous male singer. He got a little angry when I kept talking about women’s issues. Not everything is about Drake!

"I challenge assumptions about women."

Clinton told him off, and it worked — he actually responded in a positive way. She’s all for the empowerment of everyone too.

"Preach."

This guy’s emoji game is on point, but he’s still really into the extra “y’s” (is this 8th grade?). There were some rough spots in our conversation, but at least he ended on a good note.

"The march to globalization has also meant the marginalization of women."

Although he knew I’m a writer, he did not get what I was doing and was just very, very confused.

"Am I being punk'd?"

It took him a minute, but he got there. And he was pretty smooth about trying to change the subject without dissing Clinton.

"Too many women in too many countries speak the same language."

I’m sorry sir, but silence is not the best language when it’s forced by oppression. And I appreciate the rhyming, but this isn’t about trying to be pretty.

"Look at the well being of its mothers."

He just doesn’t get it at all. He also doesn’t know how to write a proper sentence.

"I suppose I could have stayed home and baked cookies."

Yes, I do deserve cookies and I can do both — just like Clinton.

"Respect the choices that each woman makes for herself."

He really wanted to know what I do for a living, even though it clearly says in my profile. Although he was probably just trying desperately to get me to stop talking about women’s issues.

"Good talks."

Then, he genuinely got interested and started asking questions. Hopefully Clinton’s wisdom taught him a thing or two about the glass ceiling.

"You're the hottest single right now."

I had a feeling that men that used cheesy pick-up lines on Tinder wouldn’t want to chat about feminism, and he proved me right.
