Meet Your New Wonder Woman

by Alanna Bennett

Do you know who Gal Gadot is? If you've seen Fast & Furious you probably recognize her face. If you haven't, you're probably going to hear a lot more about her in the coming months. Why? Because Gal Gadot's been cast as Wonder Woman in the Man of Steel sequel Batman Vs. Superman.

It's no secret that we — along with the rest of the entertainment writing world, as well as the masses of the general public — have been waiting a long time for a Wonder Woman. In fact it's the opposite of a secret, because we talk about it all the damn time. And yes, we are indeed still bummed that in this case she is still not getting her own headlining movie, and will instead be a supporting role...

But! A Wonder Woman was cast today, and that gives us a rare glimmer of hope. Hope that maybe some studio heads will pull those heads out of their asses and see that the box office right now is being dominated by female-led movies. And that that's not at all a new thing. And maybe, once Gal Gadot kicks ass in Batman Vs. Superman, maybe we can stop this delusional patriarchal fronting and this can lead to a not-far-off Wonder Woman solo movie.

A girl can hope, right?

Gadot, who is an Israeli actress, is already getting heaps of praise from Man Of Steel director Zack Snyder:

Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Batman vs. Superman. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.

So yeah, this is a pretty big thing — this is the first time Wonder Woman's ever been brought to a live-action feature film. Next stop, her own movie.
