'Vogue' China's Latest Cover Is Show-Stopping

by Rosie Narasaki

This iconic magazine just single-handedly won the fashion industry with the best cover ever. Vogue China's 10th anniversary cover made history by bringing together ten of China's top style icons — Zhang Ziyi, Fan Bingbing, Liu Wen, Tang Wei, Carina Lau, Vicki Zhao, Li Bingbing, Du Juan, Chris Lee, and Zhou Xun. As editorial director Angela Cheung said, the women featured "represent the qualities that our publication promotes. She also added, "They’re beautiful, stylish, but at the same time are also people of achievement."

Indeed, the editorial features award-winning actresses, directors, and supermodels alike, and as styled by Anastasia Barbieri and photographed by Mario Testino, all ten women look almost supernaturally fabulous. Have you ever seen a better bid for world domination than this star-studded cover? Honestly, if there was a scientific way to harness the all the star power involved here, we could probably use this Testino-helmed shoot to solve the energy crisis.

The shoot had something of a timeless feel, featuring accoutrements from every era, including disco-y gold lamé, Veronica Lake-worthy finger waves, androgynous suits, and futuristic bobs — and that's only the tip of the iceberg. As Cheung said, it captures the "golden age of Hollywood… with a modern touch."

So, who are the stars? In keeping with the fabulosity of the cover, let's take a closer look at some of their best fashion moments.

Zhang Ziyi

You probably remember Zhang Ziyi for her award-winning turn in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and you can always catch her looking ultra-fab in the front row of all your favorite fashion shows.

Fan Bingbing

Fan Bingbing is an astronomical star (she recently played Blink in X-Men: Days of Future Past), and she consistently wins Cannes' unofficial red carpet award.

Li Bingbing

Like her fellow Bingbing, Li Bingbing is an international star with quite the Cannes wardrobe.

Tang Wei

Tang Wei starred in Ang Lee's 2007 film Lust, Caution, and she killed it in bejeweled Burberry at this year's Met Gala.

Carina Lau

Carina Lau has enjoyed a decades-long booming film career, and she exercises supremely stylish taste, wearing everything from eye-searingly orange Schiaparelli to futuristic silver Dior.

Vicki Zhao

The director/actor/singer regularly steals the show in the front row (this ombré Burberry trench is particularly fab).

Zhou Xun

Another of China's top actresses, Zhou Xun is one of Chanel's brand ambassadors.

Chris Lee

Chris Lee is a pop star with ridiculously cool androgynous style (case in point: the above impeccably tailored white suit).

Liu Wen

Liu Wen is one of the world's top supermodels (not to mention our greatest hope for an Asian Victoria's Secret Angel), and she unofficially won 2014's Charles James-themed Met Gala with this gargantuan Zac Posen ball gown.

Du Juan

Du Juan is an actor/model, and she holds the distinction of covering Vogue China more times than anyone else in the world — guess she can add this latest cover to her list!

So, what do you think — are you convinced? Most fashionable cover ever, or most fashionable cover ever?
