Are Tom & Elizabeth Dating Or Not?!

by Orli Matlow

The latest beauty to be come from the Marvel Cinematic Universe isn't the awesome Ant-Man (though, yes, that's a beauty in its own right), but instead the alleged romantic relationship between Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen. Superhero movies and celebrity couples are two of Hollywood's biggest institutions, and one often leads to another. For instance: The chemistry and subsequent romance between Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield was one of the main things that justified the existence of The Amazing Spider-Man reboot, and people often forget that Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner met on the set of the 2003 movie Daredevil. Love and comic books, it seems, go hand-in-hand — which really just makes me believe in Hiddleston and Olsen's reported romance that much more.

Though the couple isn't confirmed to, you know, actually be a couple, it's truly hard not to 'ship them. Even though they are on the different sides of good and evil in the Marvel Cinematic Universe — and have yet to have a scene together in the MCU on screen — I truly believe that Hiddleston and Olsen would make the perfect couple, if they're not already. (I mean, if I can't have him, it might as well be Olsen.)

Here's why:

They Bridge The British-American Divide

Ever since the days of Colonial America, the relationship between the United States and England has been tense. While the countries are great allies, they don't always see eye-to-eye on all things including humor/humour. This couple can help bring the countries' sensibilities together.

They're Both Well-Educated

Hiddleston majored in Classics at the University of Cambridge, and Olsen studied at New York University's prestigious Tisch School of the Arts. They are both well-educated, and could talk about plays together — in addition to starring in them.

Both of them show passion and commitment to the Avengers franchise, but they also explore projects outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For instance: They play husband and wife in the upcoming film I Saw the Light, which is a biography of country music icon Hank Williams.

They Are Really, Really Good Looking

This one's pretty self-explanatory, but still worth mentioning: They are both so ridiculously beautiful that it's a treat for the eyes to see them side-by-side.

They Enjoy Culture Together

In July, Hiddleston and Olsen (Olddleston? Hiddlsen?) went to see Bradley Cooper in "The Elephant Man" on London's West End. They have both appeared in Shakespeare productions, and they clearly appreciate the highest of the — in addition to doing superhero movies. Together they can enjoy high culture, while acting in popular culture.

Neither Of Them Made It Into Taylor Swift's Squad

Olsen told a story on The Late Late Show with James Corden about meeting Swift — only to simultaneously fangirl and forget the names to her song. Oof. Hiddleston, on the other hand, seems to have yet to receive an invite to Swift's TriBeCa loft parties. So, you know, Hiddleston and Olsen can bond over the fact that neither of the have been invited into the inner circle. Yet.

In other words: if you don't ship it yet, I'm not 100 percent sure you have a soul.
