Hear Adam Levine's Future Hit "Locked Away"

by Alex Kritselis

Keep an eye on this one: "Locked Away," Adam Levine's new single with songwriting and production duo R. City, is shaping up to be a big hit. Levine is, obviously, the front man of ridiculously popular pop-rock group Maroon 5, but you may not know the name "R. City" just yet. That's OK — you will soon. Brothers Theron and Timothy Thomas have been making music together (under a few different monikers) for years now, crafting catchy tunes for major artists like Miley Cyrus ("We Can't Stop"), Rihanna ("Pour It Up") and Fifth Harmony ("This Is How We Roll"). "Locked Away," the pair's latest creation, is a catchy, reggae-tinged love song that's been lodged in my brain pretty much since it quietly premiered at the end of June. R. City rap the verses, while Levine handles the soaring, sing-along chorus:

If I got locked away

And we lost it all today

Tell me honestly

Would you still love me the same?

If I showed you my flaws

If I couldn't be strong

Tell me honestly

Would you still love me the same?

Though "Locked Away" has yet to receive any promotion, it's steadily climbing the iTunes singles chart and quickly gaining radio airplay. It may be too late for the track to enter 2015's crowded "Song of the Summer" race, but I suspect we'll be hearing it quite a bit as the season begins to change. After all, R. City know how to put together a hit — and pop radio loves Levine. Check out the "Locked Away" lyric video below.

"Locked Away" is available on iTunes and Spotify now.
