'Real Housewives' Moments That Made Fans Cry

by Marenah Dobin

If you're not a fan of Real Housewives, you'd probably be surprised by how easy it is to get emotionally invested in any of the franchise's many series. It may seem like all fun and games, but there is so much more to these shows than vacations, shopping, funny quotes, and dinner parties. The ladies have opened up their lives to us fans. We've seen it all, from children being born to marriages breaking up and everything in between, and there have definitely been some Real Housewives moments that made fans cry.

Seriously. Us fans have really gotten to know these women over the years and we care about the ups and downs in their lives. It gets to a point where I take sides in conflicts between cast members who I've never met and talk about the Housewives as if they're a part of my actual life. Sometimes I get so invested in a Housewife and her story line, that I can't help but shed actual tears in response to an emotional moment. And if I don't actually cry, I have been near tears quite a few times. No joke!

Real Housewives can really get real, and there are some emotional events that stick out more than others. Here are a few Housewives moments that can definitely induce tears.

1. Jacqueline's Son Nicholas Saying "I Love You"

Jacqueline Laurita's son, Nicholas, was diagnosed with Autism and stopped speaking. Jacqueline and her husband, Chris, shared their family's struggles and their efforts to help their son on The Real Housewives of New Jersey. Chris set up private sessions for a therapist to work with Nicholas to help him say "I love you" again as a surprise to Jacqueline. In a show full of crazy conflict, this sweet moment was a genuine tear jerker.

2. Vicki Finds Out About Her Mother's Death

Vicki has always been the tough cookie on The Real Housewives of Orange County, so it's pretty rare to see her succumb to her emotions. But she could not help it in one of the realest scenes in the series. She received a devastating phone call in the middle of Bunco night about her mother dying. Vicki was so taken aback that she collapsed on the floor in response to the news in a very raw moment.

3. Camille Walks The Red Carpet Knowing Her Marriage Is Over

The first season of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills got way too real when we got to see Camille attend the Tony Awards with her then-husband Kelsey Grammer after he privately broke up with her. She told the cameras, "Prior to the Tony awards my husband called me in the middle of the night and told me that he was done with our marriage... I begged him please don't leave and don't leave the family. It's devastating." We had to watch her get ready for the awards while trying to save her marriage, with Kelsey rejecting her every step of the way. She asked to make a "toast to love" and Kelsey said, "I'm particularly thrilled with all the love I've received from the British people." The woman he married after Camille is a British woman named Kayte Walsh who he began dating before his divorce from Camille was finalized, so the toast definitely came off as a dig. The whole episode was absolutely heart wrenching and raw to watch.

4. Tamra Reveals Suicide Attempt

When speaking at a women's conference, Tamra Barney delved into some issues that she had never revealed before on RHOC. She talked about her low self-esteem, the lack of love she feels from her mother, how she felt she was controlled by men, and how this all lead to a suicide attempt. It was an extremely emotional episode where she also shared that her mother never told her she loved her. Tamra has put up a tough front on the show, but she really had no boundaries when it came to sharing her story.

I've been watching these shows for years and getting to know the women this whole time, so it really is tough to watch these pivotal life milestones without shedding a tear or two — and I'm sure I'm not alone.
