Celebs Party Like It's 1989 In 'W' Mag Fall Issue

by Julia Guerra

This generation of fashionistas like to party, so it's only fitting that W Magazine's September issue features a 1980's themed party editorial with VIPs including Miley Cyrus, New Zealand model Stella Maxwell, and socialite-turned-DJ Paris Hilton.

The photographs of the soiree reminded me of a high-end "Bitch I'm Madonna" video, complete with flashy ensembles, freeing the nipple sans censorship, and everything '80s glam. Come to think of it, Cyrus easily could have left Madonna's rager and joined W's crowd hours later as she is captured sporting the same silver glitter body paint at both events. A creative alternative to the traditional party dress.

Partying like it's 1989 and not a Taylor Swift in sight? It's so wrong, yet feels so right. All key elements that make for a legitimate party were represented in the shoot. Cyrus's rumored girlfriend Stella Maxwell, for example, hand-fed the performer-turned-activist a piece of crumbling cake while Hilton showed off her festive balloons.

I almost forgot this shindig was for editorial purposes rather than shots from a press event until models Asia Chow, Emily Ratajkowski, and Joan Smalls, among others, made a cameo on set. Attendees were dressed to the nines in labels across the board from Emilio Pucci to Moschino, Versace, Giorgio Armani, to Balmain. That is, if they were dressed at all. Clothing was apparently optional here.

W Magazine's September issues is expected to hit newsstands on August 18th. Make sure to pick up a copy and get a closer look at this '80s affair.
