Can You Get Your Pot Delivered By Drone?

If Amazon has their way, the future might soon be full of delivery drones zipping overhead bringing people all sorts of packages. But what about drone delivery of marijuana? Well, Amazon might not be championing that one quite yet, but there's a company called Trees looking to make it happen. You heard me: Airborne marijuana might soon be a thing. What a time to be alive, huh?

While this all might seem a little far fetched, according to Trees itself, the project is all ready to go pending FAA approval of drone delivery — though it would only be available in the San Francisco Bay Area (and presumably only to those with a valid medical marijuana card). Trees sells pre-made boxes of marijuana goodies and paraphernalia, and they already offer same-day delivery for their products. Not having to leave the house or make too many decisions is tantamount when you're partaking, so having a box of ready-to-go pot products delivered to you seems like the best idea, really.

There's also this (and maybe it's just me, but work with me for a minute): Picturing how some of the stoners I know might react to seeing a drone touch down outside their house and leaving a box of marijuana goodies behind just made my day. Go ahead. Imagine it. You'll be happy you did.

"The future of cannabis is simplicity combined with branded and consistent, amazing quality products," Trees CEO Marshall Hayner told The Daily Dot. "This is what we are hyper-focused on at Trees, creating the ultimate consumer experience."

Trees currently offers three boxes, the Beginner Box, the Bud Box, and the Extract Box, with prices ranging from $99 to $149, including same-day delivery.

So will your marijuana ever be flying high as a kite on its way to getting you, well, high as a kite? Well, so far business that have tried using drone delivery, such as the Lakemaid beer company in Minnesota looking to keep ice fisherman stocked, have had their dreams dashed in the past. However, the FAA is loosening their restrictions on use of drones right now, so drone delivery might indeed be the future of marijuana.

I guess we'll all just have to wait and see. But one thing is for sure: I don't think this is a possibility our parents' generation ever could have imagined. The 21st century is a strange place, guys. We're basically living in science fiction right now.
