Get Lauren Conrad's Signature Beach Waves

by Julia Guerra

Summer days are drifting away, but just because it’s almost time to turn in the beach towel doesn’t mean our summer hairstyles have to call it quits. California native Lauren Conrad told Lucky her secret to beach waves, and it turns out there is a formula to salt-kissed strands that doesn’t require ocean water or a sandy breeze.

I have been a loyal fan of LC ever since she scored an internship with Teen Vogue back in 2005. With two successful fashion labels (I basically hibernate in one of LC Lauren Conrad's warm sweaters all winter long), a best-sellers series, and one addicting lifestyle blog, she’s basically living my dream life.

What I love about LC’s style is that everything is so simplistic. From her basic but always classy wardrobe to her minimal hair and beauty routine, she is one of the few celebs with a flawless style that is easy to emulate. Luckily, her signature beach waves are no exception. In fact, for Conrad, wavy locks were all natural.

“When I was 15, sun-kissed skin and beachy waves weren’t a summer beauty trend torn from the pages of a magazine,” Conrad told Lucky. “They were what came of long afternoons spent lying under a lifeguard tower, my homework spread across a beach towel in front of me.” If only we could all be so lucky.

There is a method to this beach wavy madness, and with a little help from LC's expertise, I've narrowed down three easy steps to Conrad's signature beach waves.

1. Air Dry

"After an afternoon swim, I’d shake the sand from my air-dried hair. The salt from the water combined with the wind would give my hair natural waves, and that’s how I wore it," Conrad told Lucky.

After your shower, do not even think about touching that hairdryer. Beach waves are supposed to look natural, so skip the blow out and let your strands fall where they may.

2. Sea Salt Spray

Spritz some sea salt spray around the different parts of your hair to give your strands a texture boost. LC's go-to product is John Freida's Beach Blonde Sea Waves Sea Salt Spray.

"I also used the original John Frieda Beach Blonde Sea Salt Spray, before it was discontinued, to play up the texture. I love that the Beach Blonde line is back now, because it has the same summery scent that brings me back to that period in my life. It’s so easy for me to spritz it in and just mess up my hair with my fingers," she said in her interview.

3. Finger Scrunch

The most efficient way to create waves is by flipping your hair over, and scrunching strands into your scalp with your fingers. I recommend doing this multiple times throughout the drying process, depending on just how wavy you want your hair to be.
