A. Skars In Drag Channeled This Hollywood Icon

by Marc Cuenco

There were so many thoughts that ran through my head after Alexander Skarsgard showed up in drag to the premiere of his new movie The Diary of a Teenage Girl earlier this week, but almost all of them lead to: "He looked fabulous!" Whether it was a stunt to promote the film or if drag is something that he's always wanted to try, Skarsgard explained why he dressed up as a woman on the red carpet and the Hollywood icon that inspired his surprising makeover.

“My inspiration was Farrah Fawcett," Skarsgard told BuzzFeed. "I said I want something glamorous like Farrah Fawcett. They made this dress, a wig... and high-heeled shoes. The whole thing.” With the help of some seasoned queens that he met during filming, the actor transformed into Lady Libido Lushbody, a golden disco goddess that was topped off with a wig inspired by Fawcett's signature feathered hairstyle.

“Well, you can’t really hold back if you’re gonna do it. You’ve gotta go full Farrah Fawcett or just don’t even come, you know?” he said. More than the makeup, hair, and outfit, Skarsgard's drag experience at the film's premiere also taught him a little more about drag culture and the family dynamic behind young queens and their drag mothers.

“Mercedez Munro was the drag queen who did all my makeup, and at the after-party the drag queens came up and said, ‘Oh, have you met my mother, have you met my daughter?’" Skarsgard said. "I didn’t quite understand what that meant, but then Mercedez told me, ‘I am now your mother.’ Because whoever does your drag makeup the first time becomes your mother.” From the looks of it, Lady Libido Lushbody did her drag mother proud. Not bad, A. Skars. Not bad.
