What Will Selena Gomez's New Single Sound Like?

by Alex Kritselis

Get amped, Selenators: According to Billboard, Selena Gomez's new single, "Same Old Love," was officially announced on Tuesday at the iHeartMedia Music Summit in Burbank, California. Yes, the 23-year-old singer just released her latest single, "Good For You," at the end of June, but she's already selected a (hopefully) worthy follow-up. As you probably remember, "Good For You" is the lead offering from Gomez's upcoming new album, Revival (due out Oct. 9). While the song has grown on me considerably since it premiered, I'm anxious to hear what else Gomez has to offer. So, what do we know about "Same Old Love" so far?

Not much, unfortunately. The track's release date hasn't even been announced yet (though I suspect we'll hear it before the end of August). However, we do have its writing and production information, which could give us an idea of what it's going to sound like. According to the Australasian Performing Right Association website, "Same Old Love" was co-created by pop singer Charli XCX, hit-maker Benny Blanco, and famed production duo Stargate. That's a really impressive lineup.

Aside from her own material, Charli is probably best known for co-penning Icona Pop's breakthrough single, "I Love It"; Blanco has crafted catchy tunes for everyone from Britney Spears to Wiz Khalifa; and Stargate is partially responsible for bringing us Rihanna's global smash hit, "Diamonds." While we don't have a snippet of "Same Old Love" to listen to just yet, we may be able to get a sense of its style by looking at these four musicians' past work.

Here are five recent songs to consider:

Charli XCX's "Break The Rules"

Charli worked on "Break the Rules" — the second single from her sophomore album, SUCKER — with Stargate.

Rixton's "Wait On Me"

U.K. pop-rock group Rixton worked on "Wait On Me" — the second single from their debut LP, Let the Road — with Blanco and Stargate.

Katy Perry's "It Takes Two"

Superstar Katy Perry worked on "It Takes Two" — a bonus track from her latest release, PRISM — with Blanco and Stargate.

Ryn Weaver's "OctaHate"

Newcomer Ryn Weaver worked on "OctaHate" — the lead single from her debut effort, The Fool — with Charli and Blanco.

Lea Michele's "Cannonball"

Former Glee actress Lea Michele worked on "Cannonball" — the lead single from her debut collection, Louder — with Blanco and Stargate.

With any luck, we'll get to hear a preview of "Same Old Love" very soon.
