Miley Says Taylor's "Bad Blood" Sets A Bad Example

by Maggie Malach

Even though the video is nominated for the 2015 MTV VMA for Video of the Year, one celebrity is not a fan of Taylor Swift's "Bad Blood." In an interview for the September 2015 issue of Marie Claire, Miley Cyrus questions Taylor Swift as a role model, citing the "Bad Blood" video for encouraging revenge. While Cyrus does give a unique perspective to the much-celebrated video, her comments also are a reminder that she's an underrated role model.

Talking about the video, Cyrus told Marie Claire, "I don’t get the violence revenge thing. That’s supposed to be a good example? And I’m a bad role model because I’m running around with my t*tties out? I’m not sure how t*tties are worse than guns."

As you might recall, the epic "Bad Blood" video pits Swift against her "former friend" Selena Gomez, as the 1989 singer trains to get revenge. The end of the video sees the two ex-besties come face-to-face in a battle, which, as Cyrus notes, is pretty violent. Of course, there's also the element of pitting women against women, which contradicts Swift's feminist image. In Swift's defense, it's a music video and is a dramatic visualization of the song, but there's no denying that there's a physical fighting component to it. (Swift even did fight training for "Bad Blood.")

Whether you're a fan of Swift's or not, you have to admit that Cyrus does make some valid points. Her willingness to confront what she considers hypocrisy and to do so publicly is proof that despite all the controversy around her, Cyrus truly is a good role model. Here are seven reasons why the singer is a great — although often underrated — example in Hollywood.

1. She Wants To Change The World

Cyrus started the Happy Hippie Foundation, which aims to "to rally young people to fight injustice facing homeless youth, LGBTQ youth, and other vulnerable populations."

2. She's A Feminist

Cyrus called feminism "the greatest thing ever," adding that it's cool when women are in charge.

3. She's Body Positive

Cyrus celebrates her figure, which is a great reminder that we should go easier on ourselves (and other women).

4. She's A Savvy Business Woman

Cyrus reinvented herself with BANGERZ , but it wasn't that easy. "You know, there’s definitely been times where I’ve had to fight for what I want on this record,” she told MTV News in 2013.

5. She's Got Unwavering Self-Confidence

Cyrus follows the beat of her own drum and empowers us to do the same.

6. She's Got A Heart Of Gold

Remember when she used the 2014 VMAs as a platform to draw attention to homeless youths?

7. She's Incredibly Talented

Don't forget that at the end of the day, Cyrus is one incredible musician.

Agree with her "Bad Blood" comments or not, it's hard not to be inspired by Cyrus' outlook on life and recognize her importance as a role model.
