8 Signs You're Ready For Fall To Just Get Here

by Marisa Ross

Up until I was 18 years old, if you asked me what my favorite season was, I wouldn't hesitate for a second to tell you it was summer. Hello, that's when school was out, so obviously it felt like the most glorious time to be alive. But now that I'm older and wiser, I can say with full confidence that autumn is the best season of them all, and I am so ready for fall. As a native Floridian, I grew up with scorching heat and suffocating humidity, so I know better than anyone how lovely it feels when the leaves begin to fall, temperatures begin to drop, and autumnal bliss is in the air.

Don't get me wrong. Summertime holds some of my fondest memories: sleepaway camp, cruise vacations, picking wild blueberries, and setting off fireworks on the beach with my friends. It's just that after a while, the tradeoff of persistent pit stains and endless mosquito bites isn't worth it. The summer months of June, July, and August may be synonymous with "fun in the sun," but they have nothing on the perfect time of year that is fall, which is when the good times really start.

Autumn is so close, yet still so far away. Here are eight signs you are totally over summer, and ready for the best season of them all to just get here already.

1. You constantly check — and get angry at — the weather app

It's been a solid 93 degrees for the past few weeks. When will the relentless heat come to an end?!

2. You'd rather stay inside than go out

Suddenly, sitting on a sweat-drenched towel at the beach doesn't seem nearly as appealing as it once did. You're completely over being outside in the blazing hot sun, and you tell yourself the next time you go outdoors it will be so that you can frolic in the fresh, crisp air while you take in all the colorful leaves.

3. You're counting down the days until Halloween and Thanksgiving

Sure, barbecues and patriotic holidays can be fun, but nothing beats getting into the spirit of fall festivities — pumpkin carving, dressing up, and feasting on turkey. Oh, and of course, it's also the one time of year when it's socially acceptable to gorge yourself into oblivion with candy.

4. You desperately miss football season

Whether you're a casual supporter of your college team, or a dedicated NFL fan, you know that fall brings a joyous time of tailgates, game-day snacks, and rounds of beer with the pals. Could you ask for anything more?

5. You get disappointed that your favorite pumpkin spice-flavored treats aren't available in stores yet

Fall is a time of pumpkin spice and everything nice. There's a reason people go nuts over this comforting flavor that will soon invade virtually every inch of the grocery shelves in every form possible. It's certainly worth the wait, but you've probably done enough waiting, and just want it to get here already.

6. You haven't had a good hair day in a while

If you're living in flyaway central, and can't keep your hair down for more than five minutes before putting it back up, you probably couldn't be more psyched for fall weather to arrive so you can let your locks loose again, and return to their luscious, pre-humidity sheen.

7. You know fall bonfires trump summer bonfires

Who decided it was a good idea to gather around a fire when it's already hot and muggy outside? At least in the fall, you can cozy up to the fire and relish in the warmth, its true purpose.

8. You're tired of shorts and tank tops

You would happily trade in your athletic wear and flip flops for layered fall fashions and stylish boots. You dream of wearing patterned sweaters, scarves, and beanies once again, and won't rest until you can finally return them to your closet, where they belong.
