The Best Fan Tributes To Robin Williams

by Orli Matlow

It has been a year since the tragic passing of Robin Williams, and his loss is still deeply felt. With every rapid-fire standup routine, with every sensitive yet humble character portrayal, and with every lively voice acting performance, fans of the late actor are reminded of what made him so special. Williams truly is an irreplaceable talent, and, in the days following his death this time last year, fans made a variety of tributes to honor Robin Williams' memory.

Fans, co-stars, friends and family continue to cope with his loss a year later. Sarah Michelle Gellar posted on Instagram a picture of the bench from Good Will Hunting, accompanied by a beautiful passage by Ralph Waldo Emerson. Gellar was a costar of Williams' from CBS' The Crazy Ones, and the Emerson quote concludes, "To know that one life has breathed easier because you lived here. This is to have succeeded.” That is certainly true of Williams — the joy and laughter he brought into our lives warms my heart to this day. "You succeeded RW," Gellar writes.

From live memorials at places where he had filmed, to short films and video tributes, fans have gathered together to pay tribute to his brilliant talent who we will forever miss.

1. The Memorial on the Good Will Hunting Bench

Fans gathered at Boston Common to connect with Williams' memory at the site of one of his most iconic scenes. On this bench in Good Will Hunting, Williams sat with Matt Damon and discussed the memory of his late wife in one of the film's most moving moments. Fans drew on the sidewalk some of his most powerful quotes, and lay flowers and even a Genie balloon.

2. This Beautiful Montage

This montage, set in part to the ending monologue from Williams' film Jack, is touching and poignant. "Please, don't worry so much. Because in the end, none of us have very long on this Earth. Life is fleeting..." Williams said, "Make your life spectacular. I know I did."

3. The Flowers on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

Williams will always be a star, and has a star that bears his name and honors his career on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Fans lay flowers at this site in Los Angeles to pay tribute to his memory.

4. These Spot-On Impressions

"My tribute to the man whose spark ignited my passion," writes Jamie Costa, the actor and impressionist who embodied some of Williams' best-loved characters. He had the voice and the physicality down, and even bears a likeness to his hero, who inspired him and countless others.

5. The Memorial at the Mork and Mindy House

"This is a place where he spent a lot of time... he is an extremely loved person so this is one of the outlets for people to come and show their love," explained a mourner. Mork and Mindy was shot on location in this house in Boulder, Colorado, and locals explained what Williams' loss means for the their community.

6. The Flowers At the Cafe Where He Got His Start

Williams first started performing at The Other Cafe, a comedy club in San Francisco. There he performed standup in the mid-70s, and began developing his impressions. While the club no longer exists, fans created a memorial at its former site in San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury neighborhood.

Thank you, Robin. There aren't enough flowers the show how much you meant, and how many lives you have touched.
