9 Sweet Lace-Up Shoes To Wear This Fall

by Kelly Dougher

One of the biggest trends last spring was the lace-up shoe, as seen on runway shows like Michael Kors Spring 2015 and on celebrities like Zendaya Coleman — plus, of course, everywhere on Instagram. You may see them referred to as "ghillie shoes," which are soft dance shoes traditionally worn by Irish and Scottish dancers — similar to ballet shoes only they lace up. You don't have to be a dancer to appreciate this shoe style, however.

If you want to get in on the strappy trend, don't worry: you haven't missed your chance. These shoes are still going strong for fall, so now is the perfect time to get your hands on a pair. Go for a pair of lace-up ballet flats for a comfy but feminine vibe, or choose a stiletto version for a sexy edge. I do recommend looking for a closed-toe pair to avoid freezing your toes off this winter, but otherwise it's totally up to you. Opt for a classic black pair or not: there's options in taupe, nude, burgundy, and other classic fall colors.

They're also incredibly versatile to style. Black lace-up flats will easily dress up your most ripped up pair of boyfriend jeans but they will also go perfectly with a suede mini skirt this fall. Lace-up heels will look great with a pencil skirt at the office and with a sexy LBD on date night. And once the temperatures start to get a little chilly, lace-up flats will look particularly cute with tights or a chunky pair of gray cable-knit socks.

Here are nine of the cutest lace-up shoes to take you straight through the end of summer and into fall.

1. A Chunky, Low Heel

This practical pair is the best of both worlds, since the blocky heel gives some height but not so much that you won't be comfortable wearing them all day.

2. Faux Suede

Suede (or faux suede) is the must-have texture to add to your wardrobe this fall, and these shoes don't disappoint.
