5 Ways To Use Jojoba Oil In Your Makeup Routine

by Stephanie Chon

As uhmazing as coconut oil is for all things beauty-related, sometimes it's a good idea to switch up the main ingredients of the products you use. If you've been looking for a new natural ingredient, you might want to look into how to use jojoba oil for your face, specifically in your makeup and skincare routine. Allow me to introduce you to your new best friend, jojoba oil.

Jojoba oil is a plant extract from the seeds of the jojoba tree, While it is called an oil, it actually has a consistency that matches pretty closely to sebum, the natural oil that your face secretes. If you have oily, acne prone skin, jojoba oil will actually lessen your natural oil secretion. (Say what!?) I know, it sounds a bit counterintuitive, but actually, it makes sense!

The jojoba oil will tone down your natural rate of sebum secretion because having the oil on your face will sorta trick your skin into thinking that it has enough oil. When you first put the oil on your face, you'll definitely be shiny for a bit, but after letting it seep into your skin, you'll notice a mattefying effect. That factor alone makes jojoba oil a great ingredient for your evening facial regimen, but there are many other ways to integrate it into your makeup routine.

Here are 5 ways to use jojoba oil in your makeup routine.

1. Jojoba oil is a great pre-makeup prep

Since oil naturally attracts other oils, using jojoba oil as a facial cleanser can help you extract the dirts and oils from under your skin. Just put a few drops of jojoba oil on your face for a couple minutes and then rinse it off with water.

2. Jojoba oil locks in your moisturizer

If you have a moisturizer that effectively controls oil while still being able to hydrate your skin, such as a chia seed serum, then you can lock in that hydration with jojoba oil. And if your skin knows that your face is already moisturized, it'll help you to excrete less sebum.

3. Jojoba oil hydrates your chapped lips

If you have really chapped lips and you're planning to wear a bold lip the following day, it's a great idea to add a little jojoba oil on your lips the night before for a huge hydration boost. In the morning, you can use some raw sugar to exfoliate all the chapped flakes away.

4. Jojoba oil in mineral makeup can treat acne

The iodine contents and anti-microbial properties of jojoba oil can help hamper harmful bacteria from getting into your skin.

5. Jojoba oil is a great makeup remover

It's gentle enough for your eyes, but tough enough to remove those stubborn waterproof products.
