LeAnn Rimes & Rob Thomas are Back, A 90's Dream

by Rachel Semigran

No, you haven't just Mary McFly-ed your way to a simpler time known as the mid-to-late 1990's, LeAnn Rimes and Rob Thomas have in fact just made a stop-motion music video together. The video for the new single "Gasoline and Matches" is directed by Twitter Video Producer and Vine-savante Ian Padgham and it's five minutes of deeeeeee-lightful animation. The kicker here? The whole thing was shot on an iPhone. The future is happening.

Gone are the days of TRL and Making the Video and now are the days of six-second pieces of art and most-perfect video imitations. It was only a matter of time, really, before Vine made the jump from little pocket screen, to bigger screen, back to streaming on your pocket little screen. To quote J.R.R. Tolkien, this video is totally “There and back again.”

And though Rimes’ video is all-things modern-technology, it does remind us a bit more of the videos of the Carson Daly era. The kind of videos that should have a little bubble in the corner of a gal from Montana shouting “JUST WANT TO SAY HI TO ALL OF MY FRIENDS BACK HOME, WOOO!” A simpler time, a time before Twitter, and a time before Vine. Here’s how “Gasoline and Matches” reminds us of the music video hey-day of the mid-90's through the early-00's:

Well isn’t that adorable -- LeAnn and Rob singin’ to each other from ‘lil Polaroid frames. Now have fun explaning the reference, or what an I-Zone was, to your younger cousin this Christmas.

Does anyone else get the jonesin’ for some of that early Pixar short goodness after seeing this video? And no, not something sad, like this.
