How To Recreate Nicki Minaj's Eyeliner

by Jessica Willingham

There are two types of women in this world: Beyonces and Nicki Minajs. And I'm definitely in the Nicki crowd. Her makeup is killer, and she knows how to build a personal brand with beauty, which is why I love her so. I wanted to find out how to recreate Nick Minaj's perfect winged eyeliner, and here's what I found.

First, Nicki's personal brand is practically defined by hot pink lips and a bold, blacker-than-black winged eyeliner. And, guys, it is out to there. It's a super strong look but she keeps it wearable by keeping the rest of her look mostly neutral. Her eyeshadow is usually a very blended out brown that matches her squint, and her contour is strong but not so intense it takes away from that cat eye.

When it comes to creating a cat eye winged eyeliner, the best way to achieve it is with gel liner and a finely angled pencil brush. Trying to attempt the look with a creamy crayon can result in pure disaster.

It's also important to remember that, when it comes to winged liner (and makeup in general) it probably won't turn out the exact why you want. As Patrick Starrr says about applying winged liner, "The most important step is to pray." It takes practice, and if you mess up you can just wash it off! It's nothing to be intimidated of, so just jump in and do it.

Here's what you'll need for a Nicki-approved winged liner.

1. Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner

This gel liner is blacker than black and tacky enough that it won't slide around when you're trying to apply it.

2. Sigma Beauty EO6 Brush

I like the stiffness of this brush, and the angle is perfect for creating a winged liner.
