'The Voice' Semi-finalists Impress the Coaches

by Kristie Rohwedder

And like that, we're in the semi-finals of The Voice. Who out of the top five will make it to the finale? We'll find out Tuesday. Spoiler alert: I'll probably cry as much during Tuesday night's results ep as I did during Buffy the Vampire Slayer tearjerker ep "The Body." Oh crap. I just mentally revisited "The Body," and now I'm in a bad place. You're right, I won't be "The Body"-level distraught over The Voice semi-final results. I need to dial it down. So. The Voice semi-finals. Five sang Monday night. Two will be eliminated Tuesday night. I'm trying my darndest to keep it together.

Carson Daly commenced the show with a "THIS IS IT," but I yelled back, "NO IT'S NOT. THERE'S ANOTHER WEEK." Wait. He followed it up with a "...THE SEMI-FINALS." Oh. I'm sorry I snapped at you, Carson. Like I said, I need to dial it down. Anyway, here's the ep rundown:

James Wolpert singing "With Or Without You": He sounded excellent on the choruses. He hit those Bono notes effortlessly. That song is a FEELINGS song and he totally got me with the "I can't liiiiive" part. Sometimes, the verses seemed a little stiff, but you know what? My basic ears could've been wrong. Overall, it was a solid performance.

Will Champlin singing "Carry On": This guy's voice. Oh my stars. Just wild. I didn't love the song choice, but he killed it regardless. When he finished, the coaches and I noticed that he was super smiley. Which, given Will's reserved personality, spoke volumes regarding how he felt about the performance. I'll spell it out: He felt awesome about it. Justifiably so! Then again, it'd be hard to not smile while wearing that sparkly tuxedo jacket. That thing was the cutest.

Jacquie Lee singing "Angel": Holy shit. I wasn't sure how this would pan out. But that's why Christina Aguilera is Christina Aguilera and I am not. She has an ear for music. I have basic ears. Outstanding pick, Xtina. The soft moments were gorgeous and the belty moments were incredible. She did stuff with her voice that I didn't see coming. Xtina said it was Jacquie's best of the season and that she "showed power by knowing when to pull back." I nodded in agreement.

Cole Vosbury singing "Shameless": He's just so good. A Garth Brooks song was a really smart move. Well, let's be real: Blake Shelton could've thrown any song at Cole and it would've been a smart move. His voice works so well with all genres. Admittedly, it wasn't my favorite Cole performance, but it was great. ACK his voice is so delightful.

Tessanne Chin singing "Bridge Over Troubled Water": My eyes welled up with tears as soon as I heard she'd be singing this. I was in shambles after the first note. IS SHE REAL?!?!?!?!?! I know I use the word "perfect" a lot, but this was PERFECT. When she held out that big note at the end, I caught myself not breathing. Afterward, Adam Levine and I were speechless.

Highlight of the night

Team Adam brunched in Adam's backyard. I hope Team Adam realized they were living out my greatest dream.
