'The Man From U.N.C.L.E.' Stars Decode Emoji

One of the most memorable things in Guy Ritchie's newest flick, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. — like, other than Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer's collective attractiveness — is both Napoleon Solo (Cavill) and Ilya Kuryakin's (Hammer) ability to literally break into anything. That said, it's worth wondering how the stars of the film — Cavill, Hammer, Alicia Vikander, and Elizabeth Debicki — fare when faced with a challenge of decoding a sort of puzzle of their own. When I found out I would be interviewing the stars of the film, I knew I had to find out: not only because, as a journalist, I'd dedicated my life to discovering the truth, but also because I truly believe it's something the world needs to know. However, since I am not in any way affiliated with spy organizations or top secret facilities, I knew that I would have to get creative if I wanted the truth: I would have to make my own puzzle, one so uncrackable that only someone like Napoleon or Ilya would be able to understand.

So, since it's 2015 and I have an iPhone, I asked Cavill, Hammer, Vikander, and Debicki to decode spy movie titles written in emoji.

Trust me when I say that a lot of hard work, long nights, and frantically IMing more emoji-fluent friends of mine on Facebook went into the creation of these. They were difficult, but unsurprisingly, the cast rose up to the challenge when I suggested it. Like in the film — which, based on the '60s television series of the same name, follows American spy Napoleon Solo and KGB spy Ilya Kuryakin as they're forced to work together, along with the very badass daughter of a missing German scientist, Gaby Teller (Vikander), to save the world from a criminal organization led by the equally as badass, but also very evil Victoria Vinciguerra (Debicki) — they were up for anything in the name of saving the world (or, I guess, reading emoji).

No, it wasn't surprising that they rose to the occasion — what was surprising were the results. Though everyone did well, there was one shining star that I really can't go without acknowledging. Did I, perhaps, discover a hidden talent of Cavill's?

It does make sense, I guess, that Superman would be good at emoji. The Man From U.N.C.L.E. hits theaters nationwide August 14.
