'Dad's Army' Trailer Will Do The Sitcom Justice

by Maggie Malach

Remakes are all the rage these days. Jem and the Holograms is getting a movie, while Jumanji is getting a reboot and Little Women is headed to the CW. The latest pop culture fixture to be updated is Dad's Army , a movie based on the BBC show. A new trailer for the film just dropped and it promises that the remake will carry continue the sense of humor of the original.

The Dad's Army TV show, which was broadcast from 1968 to 1977, centered around the British Home Guard during World War II. The comedy spawned many catchphrases, such as "Permission to speak, sir" and "You stupid boy." By all accounts, the movie will follow in this path, although the plot includes a female journalist (Catherine Zeta Jones) visiting the platoon and a German spy. As the movie's YouTube description notes, "The outcome of the war is suddenly at stake, and it falls to our unlikely heroes to stand up and be counted." You can see where this is going to go, right?

You can watch the Dad's Army trailer below and check out seven moments (in GIF form!) that prove the movie will honor the original.

1. When We Meet Britain's "Last Line Of Defence"

And they're about to face their foe.

2. When We Meet The Advisary

Yep, this is their foe.

3. When We Find Out Just How Tough These Men Are

You know this movie is going to be hilarious.

4. When We Meet Catherine Zeta-Jones

And she's a force with which to be reckoned.

5. When This Breaks Military Norm

Something tells me this isn't the standard uniform.

6. When This Is Our Reaction To The Trailer

But that's because it's so funny.

7. When This German Pronunciation Fail Is Telling

But here's hoping they figure it out in time to save the day!
