'SATC' Would Be Very Different Without SJP

by Maggie Malach

Can you imagine Sex and the City without Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw? Sure, Samantha Jones taught us personal style lessons, but it was Carrie's constant narration that resonated with viewers. She's so synonymous with the actress that it's hard to believe that reportedly Sarah Jessica Parker hesitated to do Sex and the City .

In a column for Playbill.com, Seth Rudetsky, who recently did two shows at Provincetown's Town Hall with Parker and her husband, Matthew Broderick, discussed a conversation he had with Parker, writing:

She was reluctant to do the [ Sex and the City ] pilot because she didn't really want to do a series. However, she loved the script so she filmed it and then forgot about it. Months later she found out the show was picked up and she completely wanted to get out of it. I mean, completely. She really didn't want to be tied down to one job because she loved going from gig to gig and being, what she called, a 'journeyman.' She tried various ways to get out of it including telling HBO that she would film three projects for free if they'd release her from her contract! Basically, they convinced her to honor her deal, and she now has no regrets.

To the joy of every Sex and the City fan, Rudetsky added, "She loved played Carrie Bradshaw and she told us that there may be a project coming up involving all the ladies!" Perhaps a third movie? In honor of Parker's role on the show, here's seven Sex and the City moments that probably wouldn't be iconic if they weren't played by her.

1. Anytime She Bought Shoes

And every woman watching got immediate shoe envy.

2. When She Fell Wearing D&G

Only Sarah Jessica Parker could make fashion roadkill look good.

3. The Opening Credits

Just ... iconic.

4. When She Made Us Fantasize About New York

Sarah Jessica Parker is an synonymous with New York as she is with Carrie Bradshaw.

5. Whenever She Sat At Her Computer

And instilled in us valuable life lessons.

6. When She Finally Went To Paris

And found what she'd spend six years trying to find.

7. When She Argued Women Can't Be Tamed

It's one of Carrie Bradshaw's more famous quotes because while it's a touch dramatic, it was an unforgettable close to season two.

Without Parker as Carrie, the show would have been drastically different — especially these seven moments.
