'Earth to Echo' Trailer Is a Delightful Surprise

This first trailer for Earth to Echo may not reveal much about what exactly to expect from the plot of this film, but after watching it, one thing is definitely for sure: This is not your mother's alien sci-fi pic. That would be E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, which was about a lovable little Reese's Pieces-loving alien who just wanted a goddamn calling card so he could get a ride to come and pick him up from planet Earth. Yeah — Earth to Echo isn't really like that. For the most part.

So, what is Earth to Echo like? Firstly, it's found footage — the entire film seems like it were shot on a hand-held flipcam, so if you're one of those people who hated Cloverfield because the cameraman's hand was too damn shaky, this pic probably isn't for you. Secondly, it follows a group of young friends who begin receiving strange, encoded texts on their cell phones, before they discover a "mysterious being from another world," a.k.a., an alien.

You can check out the promo below. Earth to Echo was directed by Dave Green, and it stars Teo Halm, Brian "Astro" Bradley, and Reese Hartwig. It's set to hit theaters on April 25, 2014.
