Keds Is Really Celebrating Women's Equality Day

August 26, 1920 is a critical date in history, especially for ladies. That's the date that the 19th Amendment was passed, giving women in the U.S. right to vote. Today it's known as Women's Equality Day. Shoe brand Keds is celebrating Women's Equality Day with a series of super cool initiatives.

Keds, which also teamed up with lip balm brand eos, has launched its extended Ladies First Since 1916 platform, since the company's 100th anniversary is next year! The brand has been supporting and offering stylish shoe options to women since its inception, hence the name of the program.

Keds' new tag — "It’s not a running shoe, it’s a run the world shoe" — is both a celebration of women's ambition and of the brand's longevity. Some amazing women have been Keds fans through the years, like Audrey Hepburn, Jackie Kennedy, Yoko Ono, and Marilyn Monroe.

The Women's Equality Day programs are super cool and I encourage you to participate in any or all. The extended programs are about curating conversation, sharing inspo, and offering creative women a platform.

Overall, the platform is inspired by women who create their own paths, who make their own rules, and who harness the power of femininity. That's a trifecta of awesome qualities.

Here's all the details and what you need to know.

1. "Share For A Pair" NYC Pop-Up Experience

At this NYC Women's Equality Day event, dubbed a "pop-up brand experience" and held in Washington Square Park from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on August 26th, women will be able to share stories while reflecting on gender equality.

The brand, which has partnered with Taylor Swift for several years, will provide complimentary shoes to inspire all ladies who create their own path forward. You know what they say about the journey of a thousand miles? It starts with a step, and the shoes need to be sensible and stylish.

The video series will feature future female leaders alongside past trailblazers. Mentors include film director Gia Coppola, TV personality and stylist Stacy London (pictured), and DoSomething.org CEO Nancy Lublin. The series is certainly going to offer all sorts of perspectives and the content will live on the Keds site.

3. Style x Design Platform

A fresh set of fashion bloggers were asked offered their own take on the classic Champion Original shoe. These redesigned versions of the iconic kick will be sold on the Keds site, as well. Women and their input are so valued in this initiative. It truly offers women an outlet to engage their creativity.

These softly hued kicks were designed by Tess Christine from Minnesota.

This sunny pair was designed by Hello Katy, a blogger!

This swirly haired pair was executed by Missy X, known for her t-shirt designs.

Yes, Women's Equality Day is specifically celebrated today. But it's something we should all remember on a daily basis and that should also be our motivation to strive to be our best selves. Not to sound all zen there or anything, but it's true.

Every day is the day your voice deserves to be heard! I'm stoked that Keds has launched a long-running platform to do just that.
