What Did Taylor Swift Wear To Her First VMAs?

by Augusta Statz

One talented lady has had a very interesting career when it comes to both music and fashion. She went from country sweetheart to pop goddess, and Taylor Swift's first VMAs outfit shows exactly how much she's grown over the past seven years.

She attended her first Video Music Awards in 2008 and wore two dresses, one while hosting a pre-show and the other to walk the red carpet. It was just the beginning of Swift's journey to the top, and I’d say that since then, her fashion sense has turned a little less sweet and a lot more sultry. She’s gone from hosting a pre-show to having the being interrupted by Kanye to performing at the awards show, so she’s come a long way. The same goes for her fashion choices.

Swift's first ensemble of the evening way back when was a golden sparkly number that was a little ice skater-y due to its high-wattage factor and abbreviated length. Her look for the red carpet was a little more demur, featuring pink strapless dress with a full skirt. Both dresses were short, allowing her to show off those mile-long legs even back then. Some things never change.

There’s nothing wrong with these outfit choices per se — it was 2008 after all — but they certainly what we’ve come to expect from Swift. She isn't even almost but not quiteshowing her belly button! But hey, every style star has to start somewhere.

Here's her pre-show dress.

Not bad interviewing the Jonas Brothers at your first VMAS, huh?

Doesn't she look so sweet?

It may be her first VMAs, but she's already gotten this posing thing down.

The bracelet is my favorite part of the jewelry she's wearing.

She's got the fierce smize down, too.

Blast from the past right there. I'm looking forward to seeing what Swift will wear this year, now that she's all grown up.
