Marc Jacobs Hosting '80s-Themed Fashion Week Party

by Tyler Atwood

You may already be head-over-heels for autumn's burgeoning '70s trend, but what about the lesser-known '80s fad tiptoeing into the sartorial spotlight? Yahoo! Style reports that designer Marc Jacobs will host an '80s party at Tunnel during Fall Fashion Week, complete with a designer dress code strictly mandating only the most authentic vintage-inspired garb. Knowing Jacobs' cheeky mien, the shindig is bound to be one for the ages.

According to The Cut, Jacobs' fete will honor the forthcoming tome Gloss, a compilation of photographer Chris von Wangenheim's renowned images. The theme in itself combined with Jacobs' signature theatrics leads one to believe that the party would be resplendent even sans dress code, but the sartorial specifications on the soiree's invitation are to die for.

"Strict dress to kill code will be enforced," the invitation blares. "Platinum records as head gear, sequins, Grace Jones butch realness, gloss-y skin, bleached eyebrows, slits, riding in on a white horse... No flat shoes. No matte surfaces. No natural looks." It seems safe to say that Studio 54-style designs and debauchery are back in vogue.

The fashion community must impatiently await the fast-approaching date before discovering what outlandish costumes their brethren will sport to the occasion, but the probability that more than a handful of attendees will sport Marc Jacobs or Louis Vuitton is high.

Marc Jacobs' fitted sleeveless sheath dress with its glimmering jet stripes and black gloves would certainly suit the affair's outre dress requirements.

Will a guest or two dare to tread the red carpet in one of Jacobs' latest curve-hugging, embellished creations? The invitation's wording seems to suggest guests dressed in such garb would be welcome.

A vampish coat dress with a baroque pattern and a hands-free belt satchel would lend elegance to an esteemed attendee. After all, the invitation encourages individuality.

A kicky satin mini dress with eyelash-grazing fringe may make an appearance at the elaborate event. While concrete details on the event's guest list, entertainment, and decor remain scarce, the party is bound to be the toast of Fall Fashion Week. Dust off your shoulder pads and roller blades, because the '80s are most certainly back in style.
