Britney Spears Was A Denim Dream At The 2001 VMAs

by Augusta Statz

There are some moments in fashion history that you just can't forget, no matter how much you might like to. Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake's all denim 2001 VMAs outfits have gone down in history as two of the most memorable red carpet looks of all time. You just can’t get the image of the two of them rocking jean formalwear out of your head even now, can you? Their coordinating looks were peak 2001, to say the very least, and they defined VMA red carpet style for years to come.

Jeans couldn’t have been more popular in the early 2000s, and these head to toe ensembles were the epitome of the denim on denim trend. These days, their outfits have become ones you love to hate. Spears' look was so iconic that Katy Perry had to replicate it at the 2014 VMAs, so clearly, this look won’t just fade away peacefully. Nope, it’s here to stay. Forever imprinted in our minds.

From wearing a denim dress to performing with a snake, Spears just nailed it at the VMAs that year, and that’s why she was everything you wanted to be in the year 2001, and for many years to come. And guess what? She's still killing it today. Sure, there was that spell back in 2007 that threw her off track a little bit, but she is officially back, baby!

Aren't they just early '00s perfection?

There's our denim dream herself.

They nailed it when it comes to accessories, too. I mean her jewels and his hat?

Props to Spears for carrying a denim purse, also. Girl knew how to accessorize!

Here's the Perry version.

Did she nail it, or did she nail it?

So iconic it had to be repeated.

Some things are just oldies but goodies, you know what I mean?
