Taylor Swift Goes Holographic & Smoky For The VMAs

This summer, we've watched with glistening eyes as Taylor Swift has worn one bedazzled ensemble after the other for her 1989 world tour. So it should come as no surprise, really, that Taylor Swift at the 2015 VMAs is bringing out all the sparkly stops. Swift is known for a classic (often glittery) red carpet style, and at MTV's Video Music Awards — arguably an awards show that lends itself to a lot more sartorial experimentation and kitschiness than, say, the Oscars — she's taken that love of all things glitzy to a slightly different, slightly more leader-of-a-badass-girl-gang place.

Nominated for nine Moonmen this year — amongst them Video of the Year for "Bad Blood" and Best Female Video and Best Pop Video for "Blank Space" — it makes sense that Swift would opt for something a little, erm, memorable tonight. I mean, it's been a pretty OTT year for the 25-year-old singer/songwriter extraordinaire. From helping form one of the most coveted girl gangs Millennials have ever seen to becoming a godmother to breaking musical records left, right, and center, she's definitely had a good one.

For the VMAs, Swift is wearing a black and gold co-ord set that sparkles, shines, and glistens (because we're talking T.Swift after all) thanks to its holographic nature, but the real show-stopper is the intense cat eyeliner with the heavy bottom lining to match. And just like that, gone are the country pop days filled with tulle and baby pink.

Swift's look can be described as a cross between gym goth — definitely feeling the athleisure vibes — and sultry vintage vixen (thanks to the liner, of course, as well as the gold sequins). Some might feel the look is a little drab for T.Swizzle, but I'm liking that it's a little different than her usual go-to. The crop top is super on-trend, and even though the look is sort of gym-goer meets bachelorette party, at least it's not boring. That's one thing you can say about Swifty: Gal is never boring.
