Taylor Swift Loves Kanye More Than We Do

by Kadeen Griffiths

During the 2015 MTV VMAs, we witnessed history in the making. I think we all remember where we were during the 2009 VMAs when Kanye West infamously rushed the stage to try and stop Taylor Swift from winning the Best Female Video award over Beyoncé. It is a moment that has been parodied, gone viral, and even been made fun of several times by the man himself. And, on Sunday, that moment came full circle, with Taylor Swift presenting the Video Vanguard Award to Kanye, after making a speech that even the most dedicated Kanye fan will have to admit proves she's a bigger fan than any of us even realized. Heck, she's a bigger fan than even the biggest Kanye fan. Don't believe me? Oh, how naive we all were before this speech.

It's not just beautiful. It's not just heartwarming. It's not just a sweet end to a six year feud that we already knew had been resolved by the two ages ago. It's a touching moment for both stars, because it shows Swift's capacity for forgiveness, and it shows Kanye's capacity to admit his mistakes — no matter how long it takes. The fact that Kanye and Swift chose the VMAs as a platform to put a formal end to this feud is gorgeous, and this speech proves that. So, without further ado, check out Swift's beautiful words toward the man she met when he snatched a microphone out of her hands on what was supposed to be a big night, and I dare you not to cry. I did.

I first met Kanye West six years ago... at this show actually. Since then, we’ve had a lot of time to talk about a lot of different things. It seemed like everyone in the world knew about our infamous encounter at the VMAs, but something that you may not know is that Kanye West’s album, College Dropout, was the very first album that my brother and I ever bought on iTunes when I was 12 years old. Many of you may not remember that Kanye wrote and recorded his first single with his jaw wired shut after a car accident, or how he spent years studying the craft and the art of fashion and even learned to sew before launching his very own line that has been wildly successful. I have been a fan of his since I can remember, because Kanye defined what it is to be a creative force in music, fashion, and, well, life.

So I guess I have to say to all the other winners tonight, I’m really happy for you, and I’mma let you finish, but Kanye West has had one of the greatest careers of ALL TIME.
