Miley Finally Talks About Liam Hemswoth

It may not seem like it due to all the tabloid rumors surrounding the former couple, but Miley Cyrus has actually remained fairly mum on her now broken engagement to The Hunger Games star Liam Hemswoth — apart from a song, "Drive," off her new album Bangerz, Cyrus hasn't publicly said much despite tabloids putting words in her mouth on a weekly basis. That is, until now: In a new interview with queen of journalists everywhere, Barbara Walters, Miley Cyrus opened up about ending her engagement to Liam Hemsworth, and whether or not she regrets getting engaged at such a young age in the first place.

"I was so scared of ever being alone, and I think, conquering that fear, this year, was actually bigger than any other transition that I had, this entire year," Cyrus said of the reason she and Hemsworth moved so fast in their relationship. "I don’t ever want to have to need someone again, where you feel like, without them, you can’t be yourself."

Cyrus added, though she doesn't regret spending the past few years of her life engaged to Hemsworth, that she believes she made the decision too young: "I think I want [to be engaged] in the time that it needs to be, I don't think I realized what 19 truly is. I got engaged at 19, and I definitely wouldn't change being engaged, it was so fun wearing a big fat rock for a few years, but now I just feel like I can actually be happy. I wait for those moments of silence when I'm just at my house, by myself."

As previously reported, Cyrus is one of Barbara Walters' 10 Most Fascinating People of 2013, along with Jennifer Lawrence, Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, the royal baby, and Edward Snowden. Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of the Year, including more of Cyrus' interview with Walters, will air on ABC on Dec. 18, at 9:30 p.m. ET.
