7 Ways To Deal With Your Summertime Sadness

by Chrissa Hardy

Well, this is it. Summer is over — gone, done-zo, adios. Once the Labor Day festivities come to an end, we'll all have to say farewell to the summer season and all of its glorious beauty. The darkness will come much earlier, colors will go from neon to shades of navy blue, dark orange, and maroon, and instead of refreshing iced coffees, we will be warming up our paws with hot pumpkin-flavored lattes. While fall is endlessly awesome (hooray for sweater weather!), summer is pretty sweet, too. It is definitely going to be tough to let it go until next year.

But instead of mourning the loss of warm weekend barbecues, celebrations with fireworks, and comfy strappy sandals paired with every outfit, you can choose to send summer off with a killer celebration. That is what Labor Day is all about — along with recognizing every human's contribution to the workforce, duh. This is your chance to put all of your chill summer vibes out there, and have enough fun to last you through the seemingly endless winter months ahead. So here's how to say goodbye to summer the right way. And yes, it definitely includes listening to LFO's "Summer Girls" several times.

1. Wear all of your favorite summer outfits at once

In case you don't feel comfortable donning your neon yellow dress and white platform wedges in October, make sure you show it off now. In fact, everything you loved wearing this summer, toss it into your wardrobe rotation this weekend, while you still can.

2. Get the brightest mani-pedi ever

Since your wardrobe will be bold and bright, you might as well have your nails match. Get some watermelon nail art, or just go with different shades of hot pink. It will look amazing, and it's the perfect way to honor the hot season.

3. Let that beachy mane of yours flow freely

Wash it, let it air dry, throw in some texturizing spray, and let it do its thang. Your locks have been in their natural wavy glory since May, so let it go wild for one more day.

4. Watch your favorite classic summer flicks

You're probably not going to be in the mood to watch Twister, The Sandlot, or any other classic summer movie come wintertime, so you might as well enjoy them now.

5. Throw on your swimsuit

This is the perfect opportunity to embrace that fab beach bod you've been given, and lovingly and confidently show it off. DO. IT.

6. Consume your fave summertime treats

This would include (but is not limited to): lemonade, all fruity cocktails, lime-flavored light beer, anything grilled, fruit salad, pasta salad, charred meat, ice cream, and s'mores. Eat it all, now.

7. Jam out to your summer playlist (and keep it on repeat)

Oh yeah. Every song with the word "summer" (like "Summertime" by Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff), every song you blasted during the summer growing up (like "Bitch" by Meredith Brooks), and every new song you played obsessively this summer (like "Trap Queen" by Fetty Wap), play 'em all. Play 'em all on repeat.
