What Size Is The iPhone 6S?

by Alex Gladu

With the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, Apple taught us that size does matter. The phones added up to an inch and a half in screen size to the previous models, and they grew slightly thicker. But this time around, is the iPhone 6S bigger than the iPhone 6? There were rumors that it would have extra thickness that could make it ever so slightly heavier, but a size difference was not mentioned at the event. "While they look familiar, we have changed everything," Tim Cook said on stage Wednesday.

The iPhone 6 has a 4.7-inch display and weighs about 4.55 ounces. The iPhone 6 Plus has a 5.5-inch display and weighs 6.07 ounces. On Wednesday, Apple announced the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, which have the same display size as their non-S relatives. It was reported that the iPhone 6S (and 6S Plus) would be approximately 0.2 millimeters thicker than the iPhone 6 (that's less than one-hundredth of an inch) and that the iPhone 6S would weigh about 1.8 ounces more than the iPhone 6, but so far, those rumors were not substantiated on Wednesday.

The new device is made from a slightly thicker aluminum. The iPhone 6 is made with 6000 Series aluminum, whereas iPhone 6S is made with 7000 Series aluminum. It's more durable than the 6000 Series — about 60 percent stronger than other aluminums according to Apple, which also uses the 7000 Series aluminum in the Apple Watch Sport.

That said, the new iPhone 6S also has an amazing 3D Touch Display. The display, which recognizes three different types of taps depending on pressure and works via a thin layer of glass added to the touch screen.

Ultimately, the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus will feel exactly the same as their 6 versions. Bottom line: don't throw away your 6 cases.
