4 Ways The iPad Pro Is Better Than Your Laptop

by Jo Yurcaba

Apple confirmed tech rumors of the past few weeks when the company announced the new iPad Pro during its annual fall Apple event on Wednesday. The new iPad features a 12.9-inch screen, making it a monster or a "mega tablet," according to Gizmodo. Apple said that the iPad Pro is faster than 80 percent of PCs and the graphics, specifically, are faster than 90 percent of PCs. And (yes, there's more), you can buy a Smart Keyboard and the Apple Pencil to go with it. There's a long list of ways the new iPad Pro will make your computer totally useless.

The iPad Pro has everything you could ever want in a laptop and more: an amazing display, great storage, and four speakers. Some are saying it's like the iPad, but on steroids. Apple has said the larger display will make the device great for work or office tasks, video games, and editing and watching movies, according to the BBC. The device would also boast 10 hours of battery life between charges. Simply put: The new iPad is amazing. In fact, CEO Tim Cook, who announced the device, called it "the biggest news in iPad since the iPad," according to Wired. A basic model will cost you $799 and will be available in November. Combined with the keyboard and the fact that the iPad Pro is just 6.9mm thin and 1.57 pounds, the new device could make computers totally useless in these four ways.

The Display Makes It Way Better For Watching Movies

Forget using your laptop to watch movies in bed. The iPad Pro is not only lighter and has four speakers, but its screen boasts 5.6 million pixels, which is more than the 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display, according to Wired. Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of marketing, said it's the biggest screen they've ever built on an iOS device, according to Newsweek:

It is a beautiful display. Your photos will look amazing on it. Huge, incredibly detailed, rich colors. Watching movies on it is incredible.

The display is so big that it will allow you to use two different apps side by side and at the same time.

The iPad Pro Is Crazy Fast

According to Apple, the iPad Pro's software is faster than 80 percent of PCs that were shipped in the last 12 months. And that's because of its new A9X processor, which Apple said is 1.8 times faster than its previous A8X. What does this mean? Both the bandwidth to memory ratio and the “read and write” performance of the device have been doubled when compared to previous devices, according to Newsweek. The speed of the device also means that the Pro is 360 times faster than the original iPad, according to Digit. Schiller described the Pro's speed as "desktop-class performance," except it's obviously better than most desktops.

Its Speakers Are Pretty Amazing

AND the iPad Pro has four speakers, which means the sound will be louder and clearer than the previous iPads, which only have two speakers. It's also worth noting that most Mac laptops have only two speakers as well ... Don't shoot the messenger!

The speakers also adjust their own sound based on how the user is holding the device, which means that users would never have to prop up the device a certain way or turn it to help them hear better.

It Can Support Microsoft Office & Adobe Programs

Just when the iPad Pro couldn't get anymore laptop-like, Apple brought executives from Microsoft and Adobe to the stage to show how their products can be used on the device, according to Apple Insider. Laying out and editing photos can be super simple and done with the touch of a finger.

The iPad Pro has updates that many Twitter users are excited to try, but just as many users believe Apple has essentially created a better, portable, touch-screen version of the MacBook.
