Kaia Gerber's NYFW Debut Is All About Street Style

by Marc Cuenco

She's practically fashion royalty at this point, but Kaia Gerber's NYFW debut proved she's doing things a little differently from her supermodel mom. The 14-year-old daughter of fashion icon Cindy Crawford sat front row at the Public School show on Sept. 13, where she wore a black dress with half-length sleeves and minimal jewelry. Gerber styled her hair in loose waves with a center part that's reminiscent of her mom's signature style. Her look was understated, yet cool and modern at the same time.

Well on her way to following her mother's footsteps as a high fashion editorial model, Gerber has yet to walk down the runway at New York Fashion Week (or London, Paris, and Milan). But having inherited her mom's natural beauty and All-American charm along with a huge Instagram following, it's likely that the young model will eventually make her appearance on the fashion runway at some point. Unless it's modeling for a younger fashion line, however, then Gerber's NYFW appearances should remain as a front row spectator for now (where she definitely won't be the youngest fashion show VIP guest anyway). Aside from that, Gerber told Teen Vogue last year that she wasn't ready for the catwalk yet.

"I've seen my mom do it, and it seems exhausting," she said. “She doesn’t want me to start a career too young. She started modeling when she was 16, but that world is very different now.”

Even IMG Models' senior vice president Ivan Bart couldn't help but make the obvious comparison between mother and daughter:
