Ariana Grande Talks #DoughnutGate... Again

by Jaclyn Anglis

Ariana Grande is talking #DoughnutGate and lessons learned from the fiasco. In a new interview with Good Morning America, Grande made another public apology for licking doughnuts that did not belong to her and saying "I hate Americans" in a California doughnut shop back in July.

When asked about the incident, the "Problem" performer said, "My behavior was very offensive and i want to apologize. There is no excuse. There is nothing to justify it." The 22-year-old also had some serious wisdom to drop on learning from her mistake and what she will change moving forward in her career. She said,

I think one of the biggest things I learned from that was what it feels like to disappoint so many people who love and believe in you. And that’s an excruciating feeling. You have to remember that your words, your actions, have, you know, ramifications and you have to really think about what you’re about to say and do because it’s important. It’s important to so many people.

Well, it seems like Grande has perfectly demonstrated how to nail a proper public apology.

First off, it is fantastic that the pop star is not making excuses for herself or trying to justify her mistake. She seems to have realized that she messed up, and it is a really great move on her part to not try to shift the blame elsewhere. A lot of figures have attempted public apologies but have ended up blaming someone else in the process, which not only looks immature but also drags out the process for those offended by their actions much longer than would be necessary in the first place.

Also, it is a great thing that she is emphasizing the weight of her words from now on. When in the public eye, your words can carry a lot of meaning. Unfortunately, not all public figures realize this. And, as we all know, there is no more of a wakeup call to figure out that words matter than by finding out that something you said or did offended or hurt somebody. This goes double if you are in the spotlight. The fact that she is acknowledging that sends a good message for everyone to truly consider what they are about to say before they speak.

Lastly, it is fantastic that she has moved on from the fiasco without continuing to engage in similar behavior. So many celebrities give empty apologies while continuing to do the very same thing they are supposed to be "sorry" for. But it seems like for the remainder of the summer, Grande was focused on putting her energy into positive ventures, such as touring, exploring the idea of feminism, and now, coming out with a brand new fragrance.
