Ladies, We've Got Gosling News For You

by Anna Klassen

Remember when news of a possible romantic reunion between Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams made us squeal with fangirl glee and practically broke the internet? Yes, of course you do. Well this speculation has even more reason to be true, thanks to news that Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendez have reportedly split. But don't jump for joy quite yet. This news comes from an unnamed "source" close to the couple so who knows how much, if any, of this joyous news is fact.

"There was a realization before Thanksgiving that they took things way too fast and were rushing toward a marriage that neither of them particularly needed,” the "source" said. “They’ve decided to take a break to reevaluate their romance.”

Well, take that however you like it. And we like to take it by reevaluating all of RyGos' past on screen relationships, from Mendez in The Place Beyond the Pines, to McAdams in The Notebook, here is the official ranking of Ryan's romances.

8. Lars and the Real Girl, Uncredited Mannequin

Technically she isn't a real actress, nor a living human being, but RyGos, being the dedicated actor that he is, breathed life into the real girl's lifeless form as if she truly was a regular girlfriend he brought home for dinner.

7. Only God Forgives, Yayaying Rhatha Phnom

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Sitting through the entirety of Only God Forgives is like spending two hours in hell. Needless to say, I wasn't a huge fan of Ryan Gosling's choice of "last film" before his acting hiatus, and the woman who plays opposite him is equally as depressing. Acting as Gosling's asian sex toy, she does exactly what he asks of her, including ripping off her dress in the street when Gosling demands that she "return" it to him. Ugh.

6. Gangster Squad, Emma Stone

Playing the girlfriend of famed gangster Mickey Cohen, we love Stone in a red evening gown with matching red lips just as much as the next kid, but after seeing Stone and Gosling's chemistry in Crazy, Stupid, Love, it's hard to compare the two. The film was fun, but their romance had about as many holes as Sean Penn's east coast accent.

5. The Place Beyond the Pines, Eva Mendez

The Place Beyond the Pines is one of the most underrated, and best films of the year, hands down. However, Ryan Gosling is (SPOILER ALERT) only in about 40 minutes of the film before we see blood gushing from the back of his head thanks to Bradley Cooper's cop character. And his romance with Mendez (for whom he scored the part) is really just a one night stand that results in a child. During their on screen sex scene, Eva was shaking so hard, you can actually see her trembling on camera. It was the first scene director Derek Cianfrance had her shoot, hence the nerves.

4. Drive, Carey Mulligan

According to both actors, much of their dialogue in Drive was self-cut, because they felt their characters spoke to eachother through body language (bow chicka wow wow) and looks. And their chemistry (specifically those scenes in the elevator, is palpable.

3. Blue Valentine, Michelle Williams

This movie is so dang depressing. But that doesn't mean the chemistry and tension between Gosling and Michelle Williams isnt electric, because it is. It even had a controversial NC-17 rating, until the rating was appealed to a less threatening R rating.

2. Crazy, Stupid, Love, Emma Stone

One of Gosling's silliest movies, Crazy, Stupid, Love is the classic story of a man's man playboy who changes his ways after meeting Mrs. Right. From their playful banter to their reenactment of the lift in Dirty Dancing, we almost wish Gos and Stone were a real life couple.

1. The Notebook, Rachel McAdams

Noah and Allie. Allie and Noah. Noah and those old fashioned drawers. Sigh.
