'HTGAWM' Is Going To Be Short In Season 2

by Kaitlin Reilly

Are you ready to dive back into the seedy world of murder, deceit, and law exams? Season 2 of How To Get Away With Murder premieres on Sept. 24, and if you're not excited about the new season, that's only because you made a mistake and didn't watch the first. The ABC series, which is executive produced by television goddess Shonda Rhimes, stars Viola Davis as Annalise Keating, a smart, ruthless lawyer who will do anything to win her case for her clients — or cover up the crimes of the people she cares about. Last season criminal activity hit home for Annalise, as it was her own husband Sam who hired her right-hand man Frank to murder the pregnant college student that Sam was having an affair with. So, what mysteries will we be solving in Season 2? Whatever they are, How To Get Away With Murder Season 2 has a limited amount of episodes to solve them.

If you've seen actress Davis in pretty much everything under the sun — despite her commitment as the star of an ABC drama — there's a reason for that. According to Deadline, Davis agreed to do How To Get Away With Murder as long as the show was a limited series. A shortened episode order gives Davis considerably more time to work on other projects, whereas a 22 to 25 episode count would take time away from most side things that she would want to pursue.

So, how many episodes will there be in Season 2, specifically? According to TVLine, Season 2 of How To Get Away With Murder will have a total of 15 episodes, which is the same episode count as the first season. As any fan of the ABC series knows, that's more than enough time for the show to tackle whatever crimes it will introduce. The first season was able to not only set up the premise, but solve two major crimes within its relatively short episode count. This mystery train doesn't stop rolling for anything, which is what made it so fun for Bustle's editors to (drunkenly) recap Season 1.

Of course, there is one crime that we will only need one episode to solve, and that's who murdered Rebecca. As Entertainment Weekly reported, we will find out who killed Wes' girlfriend in the very first episode of Season 2, which leaves us with 14 episodes of brand-new mystery. I, for one, will be marking down each of the 15 episodes on my calendar.
