Amanda Seyfried Has An Exciting New Role

by Jennifer Still

Amanda Seyfried has always fascinated me as an actress, not just in how she chooses to portray the characters she takes on, but the actual projects she appears in to begin with. I think she's incredibly underrated, with a weird charisma that I can't quite put my finger on. That's why the news that Seyfried will star in the upcoming Twin Peaks revival due to begin airing on Showtime in 2016 was not only exciting, but made perfect sense. The combination of Seyfried with the David Lynch and Mark Frost-penned drama is a match made in heaven, and now I'm even more hyped for the new series than I was before, if that's even possible.

The details on Seyfried's role are being kept pretty hush-hush, but we do know that she'll be playing a brand new character and will appear in multiple episodes. It's believed to be a pretty major part — TVLine has hypothesized that she could end up being Coop and Annie's daughter, though that's pure speculation — but it remains to be seen how things will actually materialize. What's clear, however, is that the Twin Peaks remake is shaping up to be one of the most exciting things to look forward to next year.

This isn't Seyfried's first television role by far, either. She's appeared in the likes of Veronica Mars, Wildfire, and most recently, Big Love, which she left in 2011. It's a medium that truly suits her, as it allows her to sink her teeth into characters over a longer period of time and explore the complexities of a role in ways that film just doesn't allow. This could be the reason that many big film stars are making the move to the small screen — that, and the fact that working on a TV series is a steady job over a longer period of time.

Of course, it's not enough to know that Seyfried is going to be in Twin Peaks, we've gotta know who she's playing and how big of a role it actually is. Given that her character is one we haven't seen before, there's no real way to even speculate on where she'll fit into the small Washington town. Pretty much the entire original cast will be returning, but that doesn't mean there's not room for some new folks to join in the fun, and that's where Seyfried comes in. Could she be an investigator that works with Coop? A potential suspect? A potential victim? Anything's possible, and I can't wait to see what actually happens.
