Proof That Andy Samberg Should Host Everything

by Caitlin Flynn

Alright, I'm officially going to start a petition that Andy Samberg be required to host every televised awards show in existence for at least the next 10 years. Who's with me? If the answer is "everyone" (and based on social media reactions, it seems like it'll be pretty darn close to that), I'm not surprised. Look, I know it'll be somewhat of a challenge for Samberg to take this on — his day job starring on Brooklyn Nine-Nine keeps him busy, and there are more awards shows each year than I can even keep track of. But, please, Samberg! Think of your fans. And think of all the awards shows we have suffered through hosted by people who were... not as amazing as you.

From calling out Hollywood inequality to taking Donald Trump down a notch to wrapping the show up on time, Samberg literally didn't miss a beat on Emmys night. Plus, there wasn't a single skit that was a dud (which is not an easy feat) — and he even gave a "World's Best Boss" mug to his former Saturday Night Live boss Lorne Michaels, in one of the sweetest moments of the broadcast.

Need more proof: Here's why Samberg needs to host every awards show ever:

He Called Out Inequality And Intolerance

Samberg's critiques about the lack of diversity in Hollywood were all things that needed to be said. Later in the monologue, he burned Trump, too: "Sure, Donald Trump seems racist... what else?" To be fair, there's a whole lot of material when it comes to Trump — but it just sounds better when Samberg delivers it.

It Was The Perfect Combination Of Entertainment And Current Events

Samberg found the perfect balance of joking about the nominated shows like Girls and Mad Men, and poking fun at current events. My personal favorite (although it's hard to pick just one) would have to be his double-whammy dig at Paula Deen and Kim Davis: "Paula Deen is on this season of Dancing With the Stars — if I wanted to see an intolerant lady dance, I would’ve gone to one of Kim Davis’ four weddings." Who doesn't love a two-for-one?

The Skits Were Amazing

Clearly his time on Saturday Night Live prepared Samberg well for his hosting duties, because I can't remember the last awards show that had such amazing skits.

He Was Kind Enough To Give Us His HBO Now Login

Those are not easy to come by!

Seriously, is this the first time ever that an awards show has finished right on time? Samberg may have even made history at the Emmys!

And, Everyone Loved Him

As they should.

So, Samberg, what do you say? Are you in? If you agree to host every awards show, we'll all even forgive you for giving HBO a heads up about your login gag (yes, sadly, the account is no longer functioning — so we'll have to find another place to watch Game of Thrones). We need more hosts like Samberg to give us amazing jabs and sketches that we'll be quoting for days.
