'Cosmo' Is Getting A TV Show

Your cries for a fashion-based TV drama are finally being heard: NBC is developing a TV series based on Cosmopolitan magazine. Backed by Joanna Coles, Cosmo Editor-in-Chief and one of the executive producers on the untitled project, the TV show will revolve around themes of friendship, career, identity, and of course, learning how to apply eyeliner flawlessly, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The script for the TV show was written by Sarah Watson, from the previous NBC series Parenthood, and the show is to be produced by Universal Television. In addition to Coles and Watson, there will be two other executive producers and one producer, Holly Whidden, the director of editorial brand strategy for Hearst Magazines. While the show seems to have a direct connection to Cosmo, it is said to be "inspired by... Coles" as well as "the outrageous lives of those behind Cosmo,"The Hollywood Reporter reports.

While the hard details of the show have yet to be revealed (actual premise, casting, premiere date/time), I'm already eagerly awaiting it's arrival. Whenever something combines fashion and television I'm pretty much always game. But this show seems to be taking the idea really seriously, as they have developed a relationship with the journalists and media professionals at Cosmo and are having them help create the project itself.

This isn't the first time NBC has tried their hand at a similar show. About a year ago, they were attempting to work on a project created by Leslye Headland of The Bachelorette, along with Coles, that followed the story of a failing political blogger who gets a new position as a sex editor at a women's magazine. While that story certainly sounds intriguing, it also sounds a little too reminiscent of Sex And The City .

Ever since Sex And The City went off-air, there hasn't been anything like it. While I doubt that anything could replace the show in fan's hearts, it would be nice to have something to watch besides repeats of that one episode where Carrie farts in Big's bed. I'm beyond excited for this new project, and NBC couldn't release more details sooner. While I'm sure the story line will be serious and enlightening, I also expect it will be funny, relatable, and intriguing, just like every issue of Cosmo.

But before that happens, let's look back on these fashion TV favorites of the past, shall we?

1. Project Runway

Easily one of the most competitive and exciting fashion reality TV shows out there, Project Runway is beyond entertaining. Fashion designers are given challenge after challenge to see who can create the best clothing under pressure. As Tim Gunn would say, "Make it work."

2. The Rachel Zoe Project

I watched this show religiously, and it was beyond fascinating to see the real inner-workings of being a stylist. This show was certainly packed with fashion tips and tricks, and of course, industry drama. Would you expect anything less from Zoe?

3. Ugly Betty

Please, take me back to Mode Magazine! This show was short lived, but garnered a bit of a cult following.

4. All On The Line

Another reality TV show, but this time with Joe Zee of Yahoo Style. If he's not already the fairy godmother of fashion, he should be.

5. Gossip Girl

Yes, I'm fully aware that Gossip Girl is a television show that revolves around the lives of Upper East Side teenagers that are probably too wealthy and too dramatic for their own good. But no one can deny the amazing styling featured on the CW drama.

6. America's Next Top Model

This show has been and always will be one of my favorite competitive reality TV shows. With spin-offs in different countries, all-star seasons, and, well, Tyra Banks, this show is still entertaining to watch.

7. Sex And The City

Even though I already mentioned it before, it deserves an official spot. Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda will always hold a special place in my heart.
