Get Your First Listen Of Sia's New Song, "Alive"

by Maggie Malach

Hang in there, Sia fans. There's only one more day until we can finally hear "Alive," Sia's new single. It's like the singer sensed the world was chomping at the bit for new music, because she just shared an "Alive" teaser. Yes, it's just 15 seconds long. Yes, it's incredible.

“I’m still breathing / I’m still breathing / I’m still breathing / I’m still breathing," she belts in only the way she can. "I'm alive."

The clip doesn't reveal much more, although there is a noticeable piano presence. It sounds like the snippet we hear could be building up to a high-energy moment, which totally fits with Sia's musical stylings.

One interesting aspect of the song is that it was co-written with Adele. Both women have a cinematic quality to their music and incredibly range and power in their vocals, so the pairing is all sorts of amazing. Even though Adele would have been brilliant, I'm sure Sia will wow us as well.

This is our first look into Sia's upcoming album, This Is Acting . In an interview with NME, the singer explained the title, saying, "I'm super productive. I have a full album ready to go and it's much more pop. I'm calling it This Is Acting because they are songs I was writing for other people, so I didn't go in thinking 'this is something I would say'. It's more like play-acting. It's fun."

That explains the Adele co-write, but also clues us in that maybe some of the tracks won't sound like we expect them to. Sia in any form is incredible, so I have high expectations for This Is Acting.

"Alive" is slated to drop on Sept. 23 (yay!) and while This Is Acting is reportedly finished, no release date has been announced.
