Is Coldplay's New Album Coming Out Soon?

I've been a fan of Coldplay ever since they released their debut album, Parachutes, back in 2001. I've followed their musical journey ever since, falling in love with some albums more than others, but always completely dedicated to the band as a whole. Mylo Xyloto was probably my favorite, and one of my best memories was standing out in the pouring, freezing rain for 12 hours during their tour of the album and experiencing the band live in the stadium environment. They've released another album since then, but 2014's Ghost Stories failed to resonate with many fans as it didn't sound very Coldplay-esque. Now, though, we've got another chance to get lost in their music. Coldplay debuted a new song called "Amazing Day" at the Global Citizens Festival in New York City on Saturday, and this begs a bigger question: Is a new Coldplay album on the way?

The answer to that question, if you haven't really been paying attention (and admittedly, I actually haven't — I'm busy, I can't help it!), is that yes, it is. Coldplay confirmed earlier this year that they were in the studio recording A Head Full Of Dreams , but not much had been heard about it since. The band have claimed that the album, which will be their seventh, will also be the last that they release, which really sucks and I can't even deal with the reality of that. So how much longer do we have to wait for A Head Full Of Dreams, and is "Amazing Day" possibly the first single from it?

Unfortunately, no actual release date has been set for the new album. It's been suggested that A Head Full Of Dreams could be ours as early as this fall, but the report hasn't been confirmed and Coldplay hasn't given fans any hints themselves, either. We can hope to have the album in our hands before Christmas, but artists generally choose a release date several months ahead of time, and we're already nearly into October. That being said, I don't have a lot of hope that fans will see the record before 2016.

Whatever happens, I suppose it should be a comfort to know that we're getting another album from Coldplay at all. Plus, another album likely means another tour, and that means another opportunity to see one of the greatest bands play live. It's an amazing experience, and one I'm definitely looking forward to having again.
