Trevor Noah Has A Variety Of 'Daily Show' Guests

by Caitlin Flynn

There has been a gaping hole in my TV viewing schedule ever since Jon Stewart left The Daily Show in August — and I'm certainly not the only one who's struggling to survive without a daily dose of fake news. Luckily, our pain is finally about to come to an end as Trevor Noah officially begins his reign as The Daily Show anchor on Sept. 28. Sure, he's got big shoes to fill — but the comedy I've seen from him leaves me feeling totally optimistic that Comedy Central has left the beloved show in good hands and Noah will be an amazing host. Plus, with the presidential debates in full swing, he'll have plenty of material. But let's not forget about the interview portion of the show — because Trevor Noah's first Daily Show guests are an interesting, diverse assortment of politicians, entertainers, and entrepreneurs.

Noah carefully selected his Week 1 guests because he correctly assumed that viewers and TV critics would read into the lineup. In a Q&A with reporters last week, Noah confirmed that: "Every single one of the guests is there for a reason." The lineup shows that he'll continue Stewart's commitment to politics, but he's also making the show his own — most notably, Ryan Adams will perform on the show and Stewart generally didn't have musical guests.

Here are Noah's first interviewees on The Daily Show.

The comedian will be Noah's very first guest on Sept. 28. In addition to performing stand-up comedy, Hart has appeared in films including Ride Along, Think Like A Man, The Wedding Ringer, and more. Earlier this year he hosted the Comedy Central Roast of Justin Bieber. Noah told reporters he chose Hart to be his first guest because "[he] is a rock star comedian who has broken many boundaries ... He has gone from being the best black comedian, to being the best comedian, and now he's just Kevin Hart."

Whitney Wolfe

Wolfe, who is Noah's second guest, began her career as a co-founder of Tinder and then moved on to become Founder and CEO of the feminist dating app Bumble. At a time when new dating apps are a dime a dozen, Bumble stands out in a positive way because only female users can initiate contact. Wolfe told Time that she hopes Bumble will help obliterate the archaic stigma against women making the first move — both online and in real life. Oh, did I mention she's only 25 years old? I can't wait to see Noah's interview with this seriously impressive entrepreneur.

The Republican presidential hopeful will appear on Noah's third episode. Noah has confirmed that he certainly wants to keep the show political and told reporters: "I thought that would be interesting, to have an honest conversation. Not to start a fight, but just let's see where this goes."

The musician, who recently released a cover album of Taylor Swift's 1989, will finish off Noah's first week with a musical performance. Out of all of the week one guests, the reasoning behind Adams is perhaps the most symbolic: "He’s done, in essence, what we’ve done here, in that he’s taken something that was loved by many — cherished by many — and he’s created a new version of it for himself, and people have gone, 'Wow, this is actually amazing,'" Noah said.

Noah has the perfect blend of gratitude for his predecessor and confidence that he can make The Daily Show his own. As much as I adore and miss Stewart, I'm so excited to see the new ideas, segments, and guests that Noah will bring the show.
