Facebook Is Down, Again

On Monday, for the second time in a week, social networking giant Facebook went down for some users. Apparently somewhat back up as of Monday at 3:07 p.m. Eastern Time, the site was faulty thereafter, interchangeably taking a while to load and not loading at all. The tracking site Down Detector notes that complaints about Facebook being down skyrocketed around 3:00 p.m. Upon visiting the site, the words "Service Unavailable" or "Sorry, something went wrong" appeared in the top-left-hand corner of the screen for many users.

The same thing happened last Thursday, meaning that Facebook has suffered two outages in the space of a week, as Metro US pointed out on Twitter.

Every time Facebook goes down — and given the frequency with which this has happened this week, there's now a protocol — Twitter explodes with jokes about life outside of the site. The infamous video of Mark Zuckerberg as played by Jesse Eisenberg in The Social Network shouting, "We don't crash, ever!" is typically watched and rewatched and shared and shared again. (Because with Facebook down, what else are you going to do?)

Other than the outages, it was a good week for Zuckerberg and co. Speaking to the U.N. over the weekend, he advocated for Internet access in developing countries, and pushed for Digital India, the Indian government's effort to do just that.
