Signs You're Too Invested In Your BFF's Love Life

by Kristine Fellizar

It's normal to talk to your friends about your relationship, but when is it too much? And when are you too invested in their love life?Currently, my friend has two kids and a live-in boyfriend who she may or may not get married to in the next five years. She says she’s leaning towards maybe not, but we both know she’s going to. I, on the other hand, am totally single. While I’m a tad bit jealous that she seems to have it all figured out, she’s jealous that I still have the opportunity to venture, meet new people, and make mistakes. Because of that, she says she’s vicariously living through me when I tell her the tales of the boys who rotate in and out of my life.

The funny thing is, whenever I get really excited about a guy, she gets really excited about him, too and desperately wants it to work out. If I’m only so-so about someone, she’ll see them the same way. When things don’t work out with a guy, it’s like she feels it, too. We’ll then spend an hour crying and whining about stupid boys over a bottle of wine while Gossip Girl reruns. But that’s just us.

It’s one thing to understand what a person is going through, but it’s another to feel like you’re going through the same thing. When we know every little detail about our friend’s relationships, it’s hard not to be a little invested. No matter how weird it may be.

Because of that, comedy platform site, Above Average created a hilarious new video detailing, “Why It Sucks When Your Friend Goes Through A Breakup," and you'll definitely be able to relate to some of it.

Here are four signs that your are a little too invested in your friend’s relationship, because, come on, we’ve all been that friend.

1. If Your Friend Is Unhappy, You're Miserable

Forget the fact that you’re happy. Forget the fact that you have a great S.O. who means the world to you. When you sit through your friend’s story of how her now-ex boyfriend dumped her in the worst way possible when she really thought they had a future together, you’re going to be affected, too. It’s just how it is.

2. You Plan Weekend Getaways So They Can Get Away

When your friend needs a break from life, who else is going to plan it but you? No matter how busy you are, you just know a weekend away will do you both some good. Besides, you desperately must know every single detail of the breakup in order to analyze what went wrong. Isn’t that what friends are for?

3. You're Eagerly Hoping They Get Over Their Breakup

In sad situations like breakups, we tend to look for any sign of hope that everything’s going to be OK. When you’re a little too invested in your friend’s relationship, you eagerly wait for updates that better be good news. When it’s not, it shows.

4. You Have To Remind Yourself It's Not Your Life Sometimes

Find yourself getting worked up? Maybe they didn't take your advice or you really liked their boyfriend or girlfriend they just dumped. It's OK, we've all been there.
