Modern Royalty Makeup

The models sauntering down Dolce and Gabbana’s Spring 2014 runway looked lit from within and angelic, thanks to makeup that complemented their gilded ensembles. A touch of golden luminizer such as Soleil Tan de Chanel across the cheekbones, cupid’s bow, and eyelid provides a radiant base for a subtle, rosy blush and a touch of natural lipstick within a shade or two of your natural pout.

Minimalist Rock 'n' Roll Eyes

Donatella Versace knows how to make a dramatic statement, and though the clothing took center stage on her Spring 2014 runway, a seductive barely-there application of black eyeliner added to the glamour. Versace’s models each wore a set of false eyelashes, which were made more prominent by a thin line of black eyeliner on the upper and lower lash lines. Simple but impactful.

Better Than Natural

What could be better than makeup which looks like your skin at its most glowing? Jil Sander joined numerous other designers in taking natural makeup to the next level by adding a peachy gleam to her models. Sanders’s Spring 2014 girls looked ever-so-slightly dewy and fresh.

Pastel Eyeliner

Though the gold leaf eye makeup took stole the attention at the Spring 2014 Dior show, a more wearable trend was hiding just underneath: pastel eyeliner. After applying a thick gold shadow above and below the eye, a thin line of pastel pistachio liner was added to the top lid of each model. The result was an eye-opening look that added a pop of unexpected color to the face.

Glitterati Eyes

Jason Wu took a dazzling approach to the cosmetics on the models walking his Spring 2014 show. The designer, who recently unveiled a limited edition cosmetics line for Lancôme, used a bronze base for models’ eyes and pressed on golden glitter in a half-moon shape for an effervescent yet elegant effect.

Dayglow Lips

Spring 2014 will be the season of the dayglow, pastel lip if the Fashion Week runways were any indication. Prabal Gurung’s models walked the runway in shades that combined the vibrancy of neon with the texture and look of chalk. From matte orange to highlighter pink, lips took center stage while the rest of the face remained subtly radiant.

Three-Quarter Cat Eye

Rodarte took a typically rebellious approach to their Spring 2014 collection, which was reflected in the three-quarter cat eye applied to each model. Instead of encircling the eye in a ring of dark liner, the upper lid was painted with a thicker, slightly winged outline, and the liner beneath the lower lash line stopped just shy of the middle of the eye, completed by a touch of luminizer at the inner corner.

White Light Eyes

Joseph Altuzarra took the snow bunny look to the next level with the makeup accenting his Spring 2014 collection. Instead of merely accenting the eyes with a frosty white shade, the pure white eye shadow encircling the models’ lids made the eyes an illuminated focal point of the face, only slightly offset by a bold red lip.

Brick Red Palette

A brick-colored lip is par for the course with makeup veterans and those familiar with MAC shades — but when applied to the lips and cheeks, brick takes on a new character. By utilizing a reddish-brown shade as the base note for makeup on the face, key areas such as the apples of the cheeks and the lips become enlivened. Helmut Lang’s Spring 2014 models exhibited a warm glow with glossy brick-colored lips and a touch of blush in the same hue.
