Engagement Nose Rings Officially Exist

by Melanie Richtman

Delfina Delettrez is like the Salvador Dali of jewelry design. Her collections are filled with beautiful jewelry made from expensive materials, like gold, diamonds and rubies, all with a surrealist aesthetic. According to Vogue, last season, Delettrez included a septum ring in her collection, as they have become increasingly popular over the past year or so, and it gave her an idea: What if engagement nose rings became a thing?

With this idea in mind, Delettrez created several beautifully crafted, diamond septum rings for her Spring/Summer 2016 collection. She has some simple designs, with one single diamond, and some that are more elaborate, with several marquise-cut diamonds in a row. Why not make a beautiful diamond ring and wear it on your nose instead of your finger? Delettrez's designs are so stunning that I would definitely accept a proposal should someone present me with a Delfina Delettrez diamond engagement nose ring. Just saying.

“Maybe we can move away from having to wear an engagement ring — introduce engagement rings, engagement earrings, engagement bracelets, and to add a little punkiness to it, a little irony, I wanted to introduce the engagement nose ring," Delettrez told Vogue. "It’s a fake piercing but with real diamonds."

Aside from her collection of septum rings, Delettrez has a plethora of eccentric and playful jewelry. I'm not even sure where some of the jewelry makes belongs on your body, but it's so whimsical and fun, I don't even think it matters, like the below art deco creation that mimics a human face.

Her Spring/Summer 2016 collection also features a bunch of pretty rings, necklaces and bracelets with eye and lip motifs, which, I would like to point out, I would also accept as an engagement piece.

Delettrez showed off her new "Faceted" collection in Paris earlier this week and it's pretty great.
