Jennifer Lawrence Is One Sassy Star

by Keertana Sastry

By now, it's hard to imagine that anyone isn't familiar with the gloriousness that is Jennifer Lawrence. Not only is she ridiculously talented on-screen, but she's also insanely funny and endearingly awkward in her real life. In fact, Lawrence truly shines the brightest when she's able to infuse a little bit of her own quirkiness into her roles, even the most serious ones. Whether you know Lawrence from her work as Katniss Everdeen in the Hunger Games or as a young Mystique in the newest X-Men films or for her Oscar-winning work in The Silver Linings Playbook, you've likely seen just how fierce, tough, sassy and endearing she can be in her films. To celebrate, I've ranked Jennifer Lawrence movies on their sassiest lines, because given who she is, it really only makes sense.

Of course, not all her movies involve sass; she's had roles in indie drams like Like Crazy and horror films like The House at the End of the Street. But when she's given the chance to throw some shade, that's when she shines the brightest. As she's proved again and again, Lawrence is the funniest, most relatable, and most entertaining when she's being her sassiest.

13. Like Crazy

Sam: "I know you talked to her."

Jacob: "Yeah."

Sam: "Yeah."

Lawrence didn't have a big role in this film about lovers who are separated by distance and technicalities. The actress plays the girlfriend to Anton Yelchin's Jacob, and she knows throughout their relationship that he's still in love with his ex. This wordless exchange is the sassiest thing we get from her — she knows what's coming, and while it's upsetting, she understands it's inevitable.

12. Serena

"I think you've taken nine months to do about six months' work. But a few changes should greatly increase profitability."

Never ask a Jennifer Lawrence character what she thinks about how you run your business. This is the only kind of answer you're going to get.

11. The Beaver

Porter Black: "Tagging? Like... like graffiti tagging?"

Norah: "More like art. It was just... illegal."

The sassiest thing in this film is Mel Gibson and his beaver hand puppet. Everyone else has to pick up the pieces of crazy left behind.

10. The Poker House

"Get in the car bitches!"

This line is mean than sassy, but from that gif alone, you can tell Lawrence's character certainly doesn't skimp on the sass.

9. The House At The End Of The Street

"D**khole is the new a**hole!"

Lawrence plays a scream queen in this horror film and unfortunately doesn't get to give off as much sassiness as I wish she would have.

8. Winter's Bone

Megan: "What are we ever gonna do with you, baby girl?"

Ree: "Kill me I guess."

Megan: "That idea's been said already. Got any others?"

Ree: "Help me. Nobody's said that idea yet, have they?"

I'd rather not give anything away about Winter's Bone because it's a movie everyone should watch. From this quote and gif, you can see why it was Lawrence's breakout role.

7. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1

"If we burn, you burn with us!"

Katniss gets significantly more fierce and angry as the series progresses, and rightfully so.

6. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Finnick Odair: "What happened to the pretty little girl dresses?"

Katniss Everdeen: "I outgrew them."

It's hard not to be sassy when someone is making fun of you right before you might have to kill them in an extremely public game of killing for sport.

5. The Hunger Games

"Maybe you should throw the sword."

Katniss gets chased up a tree by people trying to hunt her in the first Hunger Games film. The "careers" can't use a bow and arrow to get Katniss down because despite great training, they're basically all idiots. So Katniss decides to have a little fun at their expense with this line.

4. X-Men: Days Of Future Past

[Turning blue] "What's the matter, baby? You don't think I look pretty like this?"

Hard not to be sassy when you're changing colors and freaking people out.

3. X-Men: First Class

"That's not what you said when you first saw me. But I guess pets are always cuter when they are little, right?"

This sassy line has an obvious tone of anger and bitterness behind it. It's said when Mystique/Raven talks to her old friend Charles.

2. American Hustle

"Life is ridiculous. And you know that I would never say anything bad about your father in front of you, but your father is a sick son-of-a bitch."

Honestly, does anything else really need to be said? This is a classic line.

1. Silver Linings Playbook

Pat: "You have poor social skills. You have a problem."

Tiffany: "I have a problem? You say more inappropriate things than appropriate things."

This is the funniest of all her roles. Every single Lawrence line in this film is a sass-filled gem and it's easy to see why she won an Oscar for her incredible work.

No matter what genre or what role she's playing, Lawrence, it seems, always brings the sass.
