10 Worst Golden Globe-Nominated Movies From the Past 25 Years

Did any of the 2014 Golden Globes nominations irk you? Did you find yourself yelling "HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?!" at your monitor? Did you wail "WHAT IS 2013/2014'S DAMAGE?!" while shaking your fist at the sky? Did you gnash your teeth and spit at the ground? Chill, my friend. It's time for some perspective. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has nominated some baaaad movies over the years. 2014's got NOTHIN' on the past few decades.

What's that? You want a list? A list of the worst Golden Globes-nominated movies from the past 25 years or so? You've come to the right place.

If bad movies being nominated for awards pisses you off, maaaaybe you should avoid this list. I'd hate for it to stir up all of your crappy movie rage/cause you to gnash your teeth. You've been warned. But perhaps you are like me and you love it when terrible movies receive any sort of recognition because terrible movies are your lifeblood. Then you will totally feel at home with this list. It might even inspire you to re-watch these works of fart (typo, but it's staying). You may want to set up 10 separate television sets so that you can watch all of the movies at the same time. Or maybe, you'll just watch Death Becomes Her on all 10 of those TV sets. I wouldn't judge that move.

'Burlesque' (2011)

Nominated for: Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy; Best Original Song (two nominations! Won one!)

I love everything about this dumb, campy, award-winning (!!!) movie. The movie’s resolution hinges on “air rights,” which, WHAT?

'The Tourist' (2011)

Nominated for: Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy; Best Actor — Musical or Comedy: Johnny Depp; Best Actress — Musical or Comedy: Angelina Jolie

As Peter Travers of Rolling Stone said, “In a year of craptaculars, The Tourist deserves burial at the bottom of the 2010 dung heap.”

'Nine' (2010)

Nominated for: Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy; Best Actor — Motion Picture Musical or Comedy: Daniel Day-Lewis; Best Actress — Motion Picture Musical or Comedy: Marion Cotillard; Best Supporting Actress—Motion Picture: Penélope Cruz; Best Original Song

A.O. Scott of The New York Times called it ”less a homage to Federico Fellini’s 8 1/2 (it’s putative inspiration) than a travesty.” As much as this movie has going for it, it does not pan out. Like, at all. All musical-turned-movies can’t be Chicago, I’m afraid.

'The Proposal' (2010)

Nominated for: Best Actress — Motion Picture Musical or Comedy: Sandra Bullock

Sandra Bullock is a national treasure (and she could make anything watchable), but this movie is kind of blah. Ah, the power of the Bullock!

'The Phantom of the Opera' (2005)

Nominated for: Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy; Best Actress — Musical or Comedy: Emmy Rossum; Best Original Song

I take it back. This movie is great.

'Kate & Leopold' (2002)

Nominated for: Best Actor — Musical or Comedy: Hugh Jackman; Won: Best Original Song

I should like this movie, given that it boasts the following elements: Hugh Jackman and time travel. So outstanding on paper. Unfortunately, I had more fun revisiting the synopsis on Wikipedia than I did watching the movie.

'What Women Want' (2001)

Nominated for: Best Actor — Musical or Comedy: Mel Gibson

I always thought this movie was so Whatever McGever. But it’s been nominated for an award, so what do I know?

'Patch Adams' (1999)

Nominated for: Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy; Best Actor — Musical or Comedy: Robin Williams

How was this garbage heap nominated for not one, but TWO Golden Globes!?!?!?!?!?

'Death Becomes Her' (1993)

Nominated for: Best Actress — Musical or Comedy: Meryl Streep

Watching this perfect (yep. Perfect) movie is like being decapitated by a shovel. But the decapitation doesn’t kill you. Instead, you find yourself toddling around sans-head all because you took a sip of bottled Fountain of Youth. Thanks, Isabella Rossellini!

'Green Card' (1991)

Nominated for: Best Actress — Musical or Comedy: Andie MacDowellWon: Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy; Best Actor — Musical or Comedy: Gérard Depardieu

This was nominated for three and won two? I… whatever. It beat Dick Tracy, Ghost, Pretty Woman, and Home Alone? This movie is invincible, apparently.

Go home, 1990 Golden Globes. I’m done with your shenanigans. Green Card is fine, but it does not deserve the accolades.
