Hailee Steinfeld Is Style Inspo If You Miss Summer

by Melodi Erdogan

Part of me wants to embrace autumn weather with all I've got, and another part of me wants to soak up as much sun as possible and just wear mini skirts and crop tops until my limbs become icicles. Apparently, I'm not the only one who feels that way. Hailee Steinfeld wore a mini skirt and crop top to the Z100 Jingle Ball Official Kick-Off event in New York City, and even though temperatures are dropping and layers are emerging, she still looked fabulously chic.

It's this in-between, transitional period of the year that makes getting dressed especially difficult. It's too cold for shorts, but too hot for jacket. You decide to wear long sleeves with jeans and you're sweating an hour into the day. Thus is the conundrum we all go through when the weather is straddling summer and fall. But thankfully, we have celebrities to take us out of our style ruts and inspire us to take advantage of this weird weather by making the most of our wardrobes!

That's exactly what Steinfeld is doing for me here. Her outfit is sleek, cool, and dark, yet feminine and chic. And even though she is showing quite a bit of skin for the lowering temperatures in NYC, the ensemble is perfect for a laid back promotional event, which introduced her tour dates for the annual Jingle Ball concert following the success of her latest single, "Love Myself."

Steinfeld wore a blue leather mini skirt with black detailing on the pockets and the waist band. The skirt, although rather short, hugged her curves amazingly and nipped at her waist for a perfect silhouette. The crop top is super easy and a basic wardrobe staple, but it looked dressed up and fancy alongside the skirt. She didn't wear many accessories, but her boots were all she needed to make a statement. The black patent booties, which look suspiciously similar to the ones that walked the Dior FW 2015 runway (below), effortlessly pull the look together. Did I mention they are absolutely gorgeous?

Excuse me while I soak up my drool from talking about those boots. There's no doubt that Steinfeld has style, and has always had style, ever since her first appearances for her break out role in True Grit. She's always dressed impeccably, and never goes for the same look more than once.

I think it goes without saying that I'm definitely copying this outfit ASAP. And thankfully, it's quite an easy ensemble to mimic, since it's just the three items. That also makes it super easy to personalize by adding some tights or a statement scarf.

Here are a couple of different options to get her cool, feminine look.

1. Crop Top

Basic, with some cut-outs for added allure. (Ribbed Cut-Out Crop Top $35, topshop.com).

Here's option with long sleeves if you reside in a place where the cold is inevitable. Sigh. (Plus Size Roll Neck Long Sleeve Crop Top Black, $23.80, missguidedus.com).

2. Skirt

Get the same colored-leather feeling with this paneled skirt. (Faux Leather Colorblock-Paneled Skirt, $22.90, forever21.com).

I never thought blue leather could be so cute. (ASOS Leather Wrap Mini With Buttons, $116.45, asos.com)

3. Boots

These capture the essence of the pair that Steinfeld wore perfectly. (Jeffrey Campbell Truly Patent Leather Booties, $180.00, nastygal.com).

With less of a heel, these are probably much more comfortable. But their shiny finish still stands out. (Patent Ankle Boots, $49.99, hm.com).
